How To Transfer Your Outlook Express Address Book from One Computer to Another

Do the following steps to transfer your Outlook Express address book from one computer to another.

The first step is to open the Outlook Express program. At the upper left corner, you can see the Menu (File, Edit, View, Tools, Message and Help). Using your mouse, left click "File". You now have to left click "Export" and then choose "Address Book" by again using the left click button of the mouse.

You will now see the Address Book Import Tool. This will allow you to select the program or file type in which to export your address book to. There are two options: Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book and Text File (Comma Separated Values). Select Text File (Comma Separated Values) and click on the Export button on the right side of the window.

You will now be asked to save your Address Book. On the space "Save Export File As", type a filename that you would like to call your Address Book. You may want to use "My Outlook Express Address Book" to make it easier for you to look for it later. Click the Browse button and save your exported Outlook Express Address Book to a preferred location in your computer. You may want to save it in the "My Documents" using the filename My Outlook Express Address Book. You could now click on the Save button and save your exported Outlook Express Address Book. After saving it click on the Next button at the lower right corner of the pop-up window. You will now be asked to check the fields or categories (First Name, Last Name, Middle Name, Name, Nick Name, Email Address, Home Street, etc.) to export. After checking the box of the fields of your choice, you may now click the Finish button. You may now close the Outlook Express program.

You are now ready to transfer your Outlook Express Address Book. First you have to open your My Documents folder where you saved your exported Outlook Express Address Book. Find the file, which is under the file name with the .csv file extension ("My Outlook Express Address Book"). Copy this file onto a floppy disk, CD, USB drive or a similar external storage device.

To copy your Outlook Express Address Book to another computer, insert the storage device into the other computer and open the Outlook Express program. Left click on the File Menu and select "Import" and then choose "Other Address Book" by again using the left click button of the mouse. You will now be asked to select the program or file type you want to import the address book from. Choose Text File (Comma Separated Values) and click on the Import button. Next, you will be asked to choose a file to import. Click the Browse button and look for your storage device and the file "My Outlook Express Address Book" which you exported earlier. After selecting the right file, click on the Ok button. You will now be asked to choose your preference regarding duplicates. After choosing your preference, click the Next button.

To complete the process, highlight "Contacts" then click the Next button. After this, you may now click the Finish button. You have now transferred your Outlook Express address book from one computer to another.
