Using a wireless mouse instead can be a better choice. No cable problems, easy to carry and very comfortable to use. Wireless mice have different types. Wireless optical, laser, cordless mouse and Bluetooth mice are some examples.
A wireless mouse works using radio frequencies, also know as RF. It requires two elements to work properly—a radio receiver and a radio transmitter. An RF wireless mouse uses an innovative technology because of its stability and reliability. An RF transmitter for a wireless mouse requires a low amount of power. Small, lightweight batteries that may be disposable or rechargeable can be enough to power this device. There are also some models that include a built in power supply or a recharging dock.
Here are the ways to use a wireless mouse with a laptop.
- Check the specifications of your laptop. Make sure your laptop supports wireless technology such as Infrared, Bluetooth and 802.11 wireless connections. If it does not, you need to purchase a separate wireless receiver. But if it does, it will be safer to verify if the laptop is compatible with the wireless mouse that you will be using.
- Take out the mouse and open its battery compartment. It will not receive any power from the laptop.
- Attach some new batteries to the compartment. Use batteries that are compatible with the wireless mouse. You can also check out the battery packaging to see if it will be able to supply the proper power wattage to the wireless mouse.
- Position the mouse where it will be easy for you to use to avoid any stress on your wrist and fingers.
- If your laptop does not have any built in wireless receivers, put your external wireless receiver in an appropriate location. The receiver should be at least 8 inches away from the laptop or other objects that can cause interference.
- The wireless receiver can be placed anywhere from within an 8 inch to 6 foot range away from the mouse.
- Install the driver by using the driver CD that came with the wireless mouse package. Insert the CD into the laptop and follow the instructions specified.
- Plug in the receiver in the USB port of the laptop. If you do not have any additional USB ports, try using an external USB hub to add more ports.
