Whether we like it or not, the television has become part of childhood. In the past, kid’s TV was usually made up of cartoon programs. Today, however, there are more options when it comes to the types of programs that your child can watch. Here’s how you can use the internet to provide your child with high quality internet TV.
- Noggins. One of the most popular children’s website is Noggins. What has made Noggin so popular is the way it incorporates learning into fun little cartoons that will entertain your children while helping them learn basics such as science and mathematics. The main characters, Moose and Zee, are also very entertaining. Best of all, Noggin does not have any commercials or advertisements that may distract your child.
- NickJr. Another famous website that has been providing quality children’s television programs for many years is Nick Jr. Nick Jr. is an offshoot from the Nickelodeon Company and has programs that are dedicated for young children in preschool. Just like in Noggin, the programs and features in Nick Jr. are designed to not just entertain your child, but also to help him learn. Unlike Noggin, however, Nick Jr. has commercials and advertisements on their site. If you are worried that your child will click on the advertisements on the site, you need to brief your child about the dangers of clicking on links. Or, you can install a popup blocker and an ad blocker. Most web browsers, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, have plug-ins and add-ons for this.
- PBS. The Public Broadcasting System is one of the oldest television companies, and also has some of the most highly recommended television programs. PBS also features some of the most lovable children’s’ characters, such as the Sesame Street gang. Best of all, PBS provides a variety of links that you and your children will enjoy. There are also a number of interactive games that you can play on the site with your child. Also check out the many informational websites that are linked to the website.
- Educational sites. Remember that science, learning, and education for small children does not have to be limited to cartoons. There are also many child friendly websites that are educational in nature. If you have an especially precocious child, then you can try out websites such as Hubblesite.org, or the National Geographic. Not all children will instantly fall in love with these sites, but there are also a lot of children who do appreciate these websites. Even better, websites such as the National Geographic are updated frequently, and have tons of content that will keep your child glued for hours.
- Alternatives. Although there are many ways to entertain your children through the internet, you should also keep in mind that your child should still balance his free time between books and play time. As entertaining as the internet may be, teaching your child to appreciate books and letting your child play with other kids is still best.
Although there are bad websites on the internet, this does not mean that your children can’t use the internet. With these steps, you should be able to help your child learn with online TV.
