Schools have smartened up to the numerous filth and distractions on the Internet. Yes, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and of course, pornographic sites are all distractions and can prove to be a very harmful influence to students. This is why; most schools have censored their Internet access to block out these sites. Now, if you are in the library using the desktop afforded to students for research and want to check out a site that seems to be blocked by the school, well, you should know that nothing is foolproof when it comes to getting the information you want. You can easily visit all the blocked sites you want through these simple tips.
- Know how the block sites. Technically, most sites are blocked by a firewall whether computer based or router based. Now, most of the time, each sites is manually blocked with the URL address of the site. For instance, facebook.com will probably be encoded in the list of sites for blocking. Hence, if you simply type the URL into the browser bar, you won’t get anywhere because that specific site is blocked. However, that does not mean that the IP address of the site is blocked. Therefore, you can visit the site by plotting the actual IP address of the site.
- Find the IP address of the site. Open the command prompt in Windows. To do this, click “Start” and select “Run”. In the field, type “CMD” and hit enter. This will display the command prompt. At this point, you will want to ping the site. Using Facebook as the example, type in “ping facebook.com” and hit enter. It will then proceed to connect with the site through its IP address. There you will see the actual IP address of Facebook. Write it down, as you will use it to access the site.
- Visit the site. Now that you have the IP address of the site you want to visit, open a browser and type the IP address you wrote down on the browser bar. Hit enter and you will now be able to access the site.
- Explore other options. Now, sometimes, the technique above may not provide results because the school’s network administrator knows about it and has implemented it in the firewall. If that is the case, you can still bypass the firewall by using those free online proxy and IP deceiving sites. Sites like SureProxy, Vtunnel, and HideMyAss can actually help you here. All you have to do is log on to the site and type in the URL you want to visit. Press enter and it will use its server to connect you to the particular site anonymously bypassing any security measure implemented on your network. Unless the firewall includes these sites in the blocked list, you should be free to surf with no type of censorship.
Bear in mind that if you go through with this process that you will not get caught. The school may have disciplinary measures for these offenses as this is considered hacking. In any case, just make sure that you have the bases covered and be sure to stay away from visiting pornographic sites as this will lead you to worse situations should you get caught.
