Ever watched movies on your laptop and gotten upset because either the screen was too small (especially if you’re watching on a notebook) or that the resolution wasn’t as clear as it should have been in actuality? Here’s another way to watch movies: connect your laptop to your TV and watch directly from the TV screen. Good enough? It gets better. Here are the ways to enjoy that other breakthrough in technology:
Download your favorite movies from the Internet. This is the very first step, of course. What is there to watch if you don’t have the movies straight from the Internet? There are websites or torrent trackers wherein you can download movies. But of course, the best way is to download movies legally through iTunes or any other legal movie download site. The best way to go about this is to download all at once, so that when you and your family are all seated around the TV, all the movies you’d want to watch will only be just a click away. Downloading one movie usually takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on your Internet connection.
Connect your laptop to your TV using an S-video cable. This is the cable that connects the laptop to your TV. This is the only wire you’ll need and you’ll be ready to get on with your favorite movies. S-video cables are available from your local appliance store.
Use an RCA converter cable if your TV doesn’t have an S-video port. For old TVs, an S-video port won’t be available. In this case, an RCA converter cable is the solution to your problems. RCA converters are those red and yellow wound connectors. These connectors change the RCA to S-video and soon everyone will be watching their favorite movies, whether or not it be on the new TV set or the old TV set.
Make sure your TV has the plugs in their correct places. The cables have to be plugged in to their correct ports to actually work. The audio cable, which is in charge of the TV sound, is connected to the laptop headphone jack and to the TV audio jack, usually colored red and white. Making sure that the plug is correctly in place ensures as well that your film-viewing experience would be smooth and continuous.
Set resolution to 640x480 for regular TV screen results. The screen of your computer or laptop is definitely different from that of your TV. For regular definition movies, adjust the settings to 640x480 pixels, to give viewers a clearer and better view of the movie being played on the laptop directly shown on the TV screen. If you have a higher-definition TV, be sure to follow whichever resolution is stated on your TV’s manual. Newer high-definition TV sets can support up to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 pixels.
