How To Add Microsoft Word Fonts

Using unique fonts in your documents can be just the extra touch you need to guarantee your memos stand out, your reports look polished, and your flyer conveys your message. While Microsoft Word comes with a number of standard fonts, such as Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman, you can install new fonts on your computer at any time--and then use those fonts to spice up your Word documents.

The Web is an outstanding resource for finding free (and for-purchase) fonts in a huge range of styles (see links related to this article for a few great fonts). You also can purchase font libraries on CD. Windows supports several different types of fonts including TrueType fonts (TTF, .ttf), OpenType fonts (OTF, .otf), and Type 1 fonts (PFM, .pfm). If you are downloading fonts or are purchasing a font CD, be sure that the fonts are one of those types, otherwise the fonts may not be recognized by Windows.

How To Convert a WordPerfect File into a Word Document

If you've been using Corel WordPerfect to create documents - but now find you need to open, edit, and save those same documents using Microsoft Word, don't worry! Converting a WordPerfect file to a Word file requires only a few simple steps: (1) opening the WordPerfect file in Word and then (2) saving the file in a Word document format.

When you save a file, most software programs save the file in a format specific to that software. A file format is indicated by the three- or four-letter file extension that appears after the file name. By default, Microsoft Word saves files in a Word format with a .doc file extension; Corel WordPerfect saves files in a WordPerfect format with a .wpd file extension. (For example, if a file is named resume.doc, .doc is the extension, indicating this is a Microsoft Word file. A file name of resume.wpd indicates this is a Corel WordPerfect file.)
