As it relates to multi-sport athletes, my philosophy and I have been coaching football and teaching for the past 20 years is to encourage kids to play multi sports. To go from one season to the next season, and not specialize in any sport. My philosophy is that if your son or daughter is good enough, coaches will find them. If they have to play the same sport all year long to get good enough, they are probably not ever going to be good enough. Coaches will find great players just because you play a sport all the time isn't going to get you the acquired skills to get to a level that you are not going to get to anyway. In my opinion, the best multi-sport athletes play because they get to compete indifferent venues, which gives them a competitive advantage. Kinds won't burn out and they are competing in different venues which gives them I think an advantage.
