Welcome to tinkernut.com’s video cast. If you have any questions, please email me at admin at tinkernut.com. In this video, I am going to show you how you can take a scanned image and convert it into a text file. And we are going to do this using free software. And you can find the software at www.ocrtools.com. And on their website, just click on the download link and find where it says free OCR image to ASKI application, and download that. It is a free download, but it does have advertisements. So just be aware of that. It should leave after you install it with a shortcut for ocrtools on your desktop. Now the next thing you want to do is scan in a document. So I am just going to open up paint, and scan in a random document, and then save it as a tif file to my desktop. Now once you have that scanned image that you want to convert, open up the ocrtools application and select get image file. And then select the image that you scanned in. You can either click the process file button to process the entire file, or you can select a portion of the document, and select process selection. And just be aware that it may not scan in every character correctly so you will need to go through and change the ones that are wrong. And then you can save it as a text file or a word document. And just one thing to keep in mind, if you have severe problems with it recognizing characters wrong, you can darken the image that you scanned in, or try scanning it in again. Alright, that is it for this tutorial. For more, go to tinkernut.com.
