This week on BFX, we are kicking off our two-part ninja special. Ninja, vanish. [music playing] Sometimes, there is a subject so cool, it needs more than one episode. Robots was one, and now, it’s ninjas. That’s right, we are going to bring you two weeks of ninja awesomeness. [speaking gibberish] In this episode, we are going to show you how to make a ninja costume on the cheap, snap someone’s neck and run along walls. Let’s start out with the technique for replicating a neck snap. First of, what is really going to sell this is the sound effect. You can have a really lame looking neck snap, but if you have a really good gruesome cracking sound, it’s going to work out pretty good. The first and most important rule is that the victim is going to turn their own head, not the ninja. You can try and be as careful as you want having one person twist another person’s neck is always dangerous. So, we are going to fake it. The ninja pops up, places his hands on the chin and the back of the head and lets the victim turn his own head real fast. If you time it right and have someone behind the scenes counting off to help, it can look really good. Another tip is to have your ninja exaggerate the secondary hand motions. Meaning, when they move their hands, don’t go like this, but go like this. [commercial] So, here is the deal with the ninja custom. Start out with some black sweat pants, then get yourself a cheap white robe and cut off the ends. And then, dye it black. I must have not used enough dye or left it long enough because my jacket ended up turning out grey. To create ninja gloves, take some black tube socks and cut a space for your fingers and thumb. Then, get a matching set of black tube socks for your ninja booties. The last step is a ninja mask. Take a black short sleeved T-shirt, put it over your face and tie the back. If you are smart unlike me, you will get a T shirt without a tag. For all you ninja gaiden fans out there, here is your little camera trick to help recreate the ninja wall run. Start by having your ninja run, jump and kick of a wall. Then, film a close up of their feet running along the same wall. You can do this by having a few friends hold him up or use a small cart like we did. Lastly, film the ninja jumping of the wall at the end point. After some quick editing, it looks pretty good. [film test] Ninja vs Bill Trial one, wall run. Ninja, winner. Trial two, nintendogs. Bill is the winner this time. Trial three, electric football. Bill is the winner again. Sad face. Oh my God!
