How To Get Organized for College

Many young adults come to college without adequate skills in the organizational department. The first step to getting more organized is to set up a routine that will help you determine what needs to get done for the day. When you go off to college, your parents are no longer there to remind you to get your laundry done, pay that library fine, or study. Below are several tips to help you become more organized sooner rather than later:

How To Survive Sorority Recruitment

After you are accepted into the school of your choice, it is time to explore the extracurricular ways to get involved on campus. Particularly if you are moving any distance from home for school, it is essential to make new friends to order a late night pizza with, while attempting to "study" all night for your next big exam. A great way to meet great lifelong friends is to join a sorority.

How To Protect Your Credit Rating and Your Identity

What if your reputation or financial status is threatened by an inaccurate credit score caused by erroneously reported information? Or your personal information is stolen by an identity thief who hacked into someone else's computer without your knowledge? The truth is - odds are if it hasn't happened yet -it will. It is difficult to imagine the amount of time and the physical and mental energy it takes to deal with having your identity stolen...until it happens to you!

Identity theft (or inaccurate credit reporting) is often exacerbated by the fact that consumers typically don't review their credit reports or take any steps to prevent ID theft due to the false belief that they aren't vulnerable to fraud.

The reality is - data breaches continue to happen and thieves continue to find new methods to hijack, then sell our personal information.

How To Organize a Foreign Language Class Debate

Class debates can be a great motivational tool for creating meaningful interactions and discussions with language learners. They provoke students to speak impromptu and express themselves freely. As a teacher, you are not only an outside observer or a mere prompter of the class debates, but also an active participant and a thorough designer of the class activities.

Studying abroad is a significant commitment. In most cases, students spend several years working towards their educational goals in a foreign country. If this happens to be your first long-term outing away from home, family, relatives and friends, there is a high likelihood of you feeling homesick very soon. If not, it's just a matter of time until homesickness catches up with you. What I would like share with you are a few useful tips to avoid homesickness when studying abroad. You get homesick when you find yourself lonely and unoccupied because it drives you to draw memories from back home about all the things you're missing out on by being away.

A good relationship between students and teachers makes the classroom a more inviting place. When you like your teacher, it's easier to pay attention to his explanations and improve your grades. When you consider your teacher a friend, you'll certainly have more respect for him. When your teachers consider you to be a friend and not only a student, they'll feel freer in class and that will probably affect the classroom in a very positive way. Now here are some tips to develop a friendly relationship with your teachers:

You are going to college where lots of responsibilities await you, along with new opportunities and new girls. You may want to break up with your girlfriend because of the opportunities it will bring you, such as having no worries over your relationship with her, and the advantages of having a single life in college that will allow you to excel in your chosen field of study.
How To Deal with a Professor of Profanities

F*** …. F***…. F***…. are the words that are generally used in my Writing for the Web class at a renowned university. You would generally think this type of language would be coming from the students. However, it is embarrassing to relay that it is coming from the tongue of my professor. Imagine sitting in a class at this expensive institution, being criticized for your writings, and your instructor uses such profanity. What a contradiction!

His use of the word to express anger, annoyance, contempt, impatience, surprise, or simply for emphasis is mortifying. Where is his mind during our two-hour class? Is he in a 'go F*** yourself' mood or does he not just give an F***?

Here's how to deal with a person who has this type of disposition.

Before entering college, we have big dreams about it…we expect it to be a place of fun and excitement, where we can cut classes as per our wish, watch numerous movies with friends, where we can sharpen our talents and become an expert in the field of our liking, etc. But a few months down the line, we are fully baffled by what all is taking place around us: Numerous assignments and class tests, frequent university exams, practicals, projects, etc., etc., etc. We find everyone (except us) doing everything promptly; we find ourselves lost at times and sometimes even thoroughly frustrated. We find it hard to balance our ‘life of fun and excitement’ and our ‘life filled with exams and assignments.’ What I am penning down here are a few tips which can help you to spice up your campus life, and at the same time, get decent grades.

How To Avoid All-Nighters

In all my years of college, I never pulled an all-nighter. I was able to successfully take every mid-term, every final, and write every research paper effectively and in time without losing that much sleep. However, this does not mean all-nighters aren’t commonplace. Too many students rely on this method of working, and it only hurts their academic performance. You shouldn’t just avoid pulling all-nighters; you should never have to resort to one in the first place. If you need help avoiding these dreadful college forced-insomnia study sessions, try out these tips.

How To Apply to Cal State Fullerton

Choosing which college to attend is an important decision-probably one of the most important decisions you'll make. However, before deciding, you'll need to apply. There are some important things to consider before applying to college, and Cal State Fullerton is no exception. Think about:

Finances. Going to college can be expensive, so it's important to review your finances and determine what you can afford. Cal State Fullerton is charging $3,302 (in-state) and $13,472 (out-of-state) for tuition in 2007, which is a good indication of what 2008 tuition will be as well.

If you're planning to live on campus, you'll also need to factor in room and board. You'll need to add that to your tuition costs as well.

If you're not sure what you can afford, use this tuition calculator to help figure it out.

How To Use Wikipedia

Wikipedia has been on the Internet for several years now and was founded on the idea that everyone had information and knowledge they could share with others, which is what the Internet is really all about. The problem with Wikipedia is that anybody can contribute information on any topic at anytime they like, regardless of what they know about it. Many teachers (like myself) won't allow students to cite Wikipedia when writing papers due to the (at times) unreliability of the information. Many students argue that every page on Wikipedia is checked for accuracy but due to the size and number of updates to the site every day, this simply is not true. If you have found information on Wiki that you really want to use, here are some tips to making sure you get the correct information.

How To Earn a Reasonably-Priced College Degree

The matter seems settled in the minds of the American public: It costs a fortune to obtain a bachelor’s degree at any of the nation’s institutions of higher learning. Annual tuition and fees of $40,000 or more are not unusual at many prestigious universities, and a thriving student-loan industry exists to provide funds for millions of students.

The fact is that many graduates find themselves deeply in debt the moment they first set foot into the working world. It’s not uncommon to find these college loan obligations remaining unpaid a decade or two after graduation, with increasing instances of offspring of these graduates applying for college loans before the parents have paid their own off.

I’d like to offer a different scenario. It’s my belief that a first-rate diploma can be obtained inexpensively. I think of it as college-on-the-cheap. Let me describe how it’s done.

How To Stop Binge Drinking on College Campuses

Binge drinking, commonly defined as consuming five or more drinks in a single sitting, is an increasing problem on college campuses. However, there are several steps universities, students and surrounding communities can take to combat this troublesome activity.

Increase awareness. One of the first thing colleges need to do is to inform students of the dangers of binge drinking. While nearly everyone is aware of the dangers of activities like drunk driving, they are not always familiar with the inherent risks of drinking too many drinks too quickly. Presentations to incoming freshmen dormitories, and students groups can help raise awareness of the detrimental effects of binge drinking. Many schools have also launched successful marketing campaigns warning of the dangers of binge drinking through posters, public service announcements and newspaper advertisements.

How To Enroll in a Computer Science Distance Learning Program

Computer science is an exciting and enjoyable major. Many people decide to go back to college (or start college) to get trained in this ever-changing field. However, it is difficult or impossible to give up one's day job to go back to school; bills continue to need to be paid, and other "grown-up" responsibilities don't just vanish when you go back to school. For this reason, computer science distance learning programs are very popular among adult learners and others (stay at home mothers, those housebound) who cannot engage in a typical college degree program. In the end, a distance learner will have the same expertise as the traditional student. However, to make the most of your educational time, it is important to find the program that is tailored to your needs and circumstances. Follow these steps and you will find a computer science distance learning program perfect for you!

All protests to the contrary, most experts on hazing believe that the vast majority of sororities and fraternities have some type of hazing or initiation practices. Many of these practices are pretty harmless. Pledges are required to run errands for older members, for example, while others border on abuse and even torture. If you are going to join a sorority, knowing how to survive sorority initiation will help you through the weeks ahead.

Many of us spend a great deal of time as we go through childhood thinking about what we want to be when we "grow up." Finally the day comes when we can no longer just think about it and we have to make a decision. This often means choosing a college major. Determining what major is best for you can seem overwhelming. The good news is that with some careful thought and research, choosing a college major need not leave you in a panic.

How To Find and Take Advantage of Student Discounts

College can certainly put a strain on your finances. Between tuition, room and board, and books, it can be hard to find money for less essential, but still important, things like entertainment. Why not make the most of your limited funds by taking full advantage of the discounts available to you as a student?

Understand why businesses offer discounts. Discounts can draw you in the door, which can give one store a definite advantage over another in the crowded world of shopping. Many businesses hope to foster brand loyalty by building a relationship with consumers at a young age. Local stores may figure the increased volume of customers from a nearby college will offset the loss of profit from the discount. If you can figure out which businesses could most benefit from increased student traffic, you're on your way to finding businesses with student discounts.

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program designed to give students in a number of states in the western portion of the United States a bit of flexibility in their college life. Students who live in participating states can attend schools in the other states at a significantly reduced rate of tuition. This program permits students who are interested in a couple of classes at another university to attend for much less money.

How To Get Nonprofit Training

Many students often mistakenly believe that nonprofit organizations are willing to accept any kind of help that comes along because the groups use volunteers. That isn't exactly the case, which is why getting valid nonprofit training is tougher than one might imagine.

Know what you want to gain from the experience. Many nonprofit groups work with sympathetic groups, such as battered women, the terminally ill, or children. Start your search with a clear list of your goals for nonprofit training. Some of these groups will want you to do menial tasks continually, and you'll be tempted because you believe in their group. You may find, however, that you are spending significant time on these projects without learning anything valuable, which is why starting with your a list of goals is important.
