How To Apply for a Scholarship

Applying for scholarships is one good way of saving money, so you can put additional money into your savings account instead of just taking away from your bank for your regular expenses.

You might be having second thoughts because first of all, applying for a scholarship is not easy. Secondly, there is the discouraging thought that if you do qualify, you might only get minimal support based on your average income bracket. However, you may still be qualified, and there are very good reasons for you to take this advantage -- to enhance not just your academic performance, but also your saving plans. Good reasons to apply for a scholarship, right?

How To Easily Read Shakespeare

I think that if a poll was taken of high school students asking, 'Who would you most wish to see tortured?', William Shakespeare would top the list. English teachers love the Bard in all his wonderful, bawdy 16th century dialogue and prose; English students hate him for the same reason. If you need or want to read a comedy, tragedy or sonnet of Shakespeare's and don't know how to begin, here are some tips to get you started.

How To Get Started with a School Garden Project

A classroom gardening project can be a fun and wonderful learning experience for you and your students. It is also something the entire school can become involved in, if organized properly. Gardening shows children the cycle of life, as well as where a lot of their fruits and vegetables come from. It is something they can become involved in and will hopefully give them a sense of pride in what they have created. It may even open up a life time of love for growing flowers and vegetables.

There are several things to consider when you are organizing a gardening project for a classroom or school. This article will go through all the things to consider, and the necessary steps you will need to take.

How To Choose the Perfect Gift for Your Child's Teacher

As a teacher myself, I have received numerous gifts throughout the years. Although gifts are optional, they are considered to be a display of appreciation. When a child feels sad because he or she has no gift to give me, I always remind him or her that a smile, a thank you or a drawing are precious gifts of appreciation to any teacher. It puts a smile on their face and mine as well. After all, it is not the gift but the intention behind it, as they say, that makes the difference.

On the other hand, many parents and children are on the prowl for the "perfect" gift for teachers. How do you choose the perfect gift for your child's teacher? Simply follow these few tips and you will hit the "bulls-eye" by getting the perfect gift.

How To Write a Paragraph

Remember when you first learned to ride a bike or drive a car? Your first attempts were rather awkward, weren't they? Those activities are skills; the more you practiced, the more accomplished you became. Right? Writing is also a skill, and practice in writing improves our writing, just as driving a car makes us better drivers. We're going to practice writing a paragraph, but remember, this endeavor must be practiced many times. Let's take the first step now.

How To Deal with Bullies as a Child

Mankind has been plagued by a growing problem that has been infecting our society for thoushands of years. What is this problem? It is know as bullying. Adults have a hard time dealing with this attitude and the trauma linked to it for years on end. In fact, criminal minds have been known as either bullies or victims of bullying. Either way, most people don't seem to have all the tools needed to put a stop to it, which is why schools have decided to take matters in their own hands.

You see, educators believe that bullying must be nipped in the bud. And it can start as early as Kindergarten. Bullies come in all ages. The younger a child is when he learns right from wrong and how to react appropriately to difficult situations without affecting others negatively, the better the chance is that he doesn't become a bully.

Personal profiles, especially online profiles, are an excellent way to distill information about you into a digestible and interesting format. A profile is a scrapbook of your life in words. The goal is to create a cross-section of your life and self that will intrigue the reader and make her want to find out more about you.
How To Use Wikipedia

Wikipedia has been on the Internet for several years now and was founded on the idea that everyone had information and knowledge they could share with others, which is what the Internet is really all about. The problem with Wikipedia is that anybody can contribute information on any topic at anytime they like, regardless of what they know about it. Many teachers (like myself) won't allow students to cite Wikipedia when writing papers due to the (at times) unreliability of the information. Many students argue that every page on Wikipedia is checked for accuracy but due to the size and number of updates to the site every day, this simply is not true. If you have found information on Wiki that you really want to use, here are some tips to making sure you get the correct information.

How To Compare Charter and Traditional Schools

As parents try to decide whether to move their children to a charter school, they often seek to compare the similarities and differences between these schools and traditional schools. In some cases, educators, politicians, and even media also seek to make comparisons between the two schools as well. There are several ways to compare the two, including the following:

How To Enroll in a Charter School

Charter schools are typically considered a part of a public school system in a particular district and state. Because of this, charter schools are subject to all laws governing any public school, including civil rights and federal special education laws. Enrolling your child in a charter school generally involves several steps.

How To Draft a Student Bill of Rights

Many high schools and colleges invite students to draft a student bill of rights. For some, this is only an exercise in writing a government document. For others, however, this student bill of rights will become an official document used throughout the year or throughout a student's academic career. The following steps will help you know how to draft a student bill of rights.

How To Protect Student Rights

Schools don't always feel like places where students' rights are protected. School officials don't need probable cause to search students, freedom of expression is severely limited, and punishments are often handed out without due process. Students often feel unsafe at school, and their educational needs aren't always met.

However, students do have rights, and smart students know how to protect them. Students' rights are designed to protect students' dignity, to maximize their educational experiences, and to maintain a safe and fair school environment. The following tips can help students protect their rights:

1. Know your rights Student rights include:

How To Improve Study Skills in Middle School

Middle school is recognized by most authorities as a crucial period in a student's life. You are at the point where schoolwork is becoming more difficult, and your grades are being counted on your official transcript. These factors alone are formidable, but classwork is also becoming more involved and abstract, and students are being asked to use their brains in ways analytical and intuitive that they may not have yet been called on to develop. Because this period in your life marks your passage into the adult world of practical knowledge, reasoning, and career study, it is important that you cultivate an effective method of learning and reviewing information that allows you to truly understand it. By acknowledging the following factors, you can develop the skills needed to absorb and apply information in class.

How To Recognize At-Risk Students

At-risk students can be found in schools at every socioeconomic level. It is important that educators learn how to recognize the signs of at-risk students, but they must also know how to help these students succeed in academics. In many schools across the nation, there are support teams, often called Building Base Support Teams, which are created to track these students and to offer guidance throughout their academic career. These teams are typically comprised of several teachers and at least one administrator.

How To Interpret a Student Progress Report

For students, school progress reports can be a source of pride or something that they dread. For parents, the feelings are much the same. Progress reports vary a bit from school to school, but all are designed for the same purpose--to help both students and their parents assess the child's academic progress. Here are a few guidelines for interpreting a student progress report:

Most schools issue progress reports for students at least four times each year. Some go a step further and send home "mini" reports between the official grading periods so that parents and students have a good idea about the direction that the grades are going. This can be especially helpful for students who are struggling since it gives them extra time to turn a grade around before it becomes permanent and factors into the student's grade point average (GPA).

How To Build a Student Survival Kit

A student survival kit will always keep you prepared for class. Although it makes a great gift for high school graduates and college students, any student getting ready to go back to school should include the following materials on his or her shopping list.

Building a student survival kit requires gathering materials that are essential for students to have in order to prepare for new classes, stay on top of current assignments, get the most from their education experience, and make the grade in the classroom.

NOTE BOOKS Note books are an essential part of the student survival kit. The type of note book can vary depending on the student's course load and course requirements. Since note books can be used and organized in various ways, the type of note book will vary. There are single subject, three subject, five subject, and composition note books that can be included in the kit.

How To Set Goals To Improve Study Skills

Setting goals is a good way to accomplish a particularly difficult task. Study skills are one such task that takes time and effort to master. By setting S.M.A.R.T. goals related to an area of your study skills that needs improvement, you will be studying like a pro in no time!

Specific-Once you decide what all you want to work on, narrow it down to one thing. Be as specific as possible. Working out one problem at a time will make it much easier to reach your goal without spreading yourself too thin. "I want to be a better reader," is too broad. Be more specific such as, "I want to improve my reading speed." Write this specific area down on a piece of paper.
