How To Buy Clothes for College

Buying clothes for college can be a daunting experience, especially for the freshmen. Whether or not you were a fashion icon in high school, a whole new environment and lifestyle in college will require you to inspect your wardrobe and do some transformation unless dressing appropriately is not among your concerns. To help you get started, take time to consider the following items.

  1. Check your existing wardrobe. To get an idea of what you need to buy, look into your closet and see what you are missing. Chances are you already have most of the essentials: jeans, shirts, sweats, blazers, coats, socks, scarves, underwear, shoes, accessories, etc. Take note of items that you have to invest in and only buy what is needed.
  2. Learn to mix and match. Not only does it make you practical, but mixing and matching clothes also gives you a sense of style. Shopping clothes for college does not necessarily mean splurging on heaps of brand new outfits. Invest in a good pair of jeans, which you can match with a variety of tops from sweats to blazers.
  3. Choose comfortable clothes. Even if you prefer fashion to comfort, invest on comfortable and functional clothes. You can always exude fashion in comfortable garments anyway by knowing how to carry yourself well. When it comes to comfort, do not forget your footwear. Buy shoes that do not hurt your feet by a lot of walking around the campus. A pair of shoes that will match most of your clothes will be perfect.
  4. Buy clothes for the weather. Do not forget coats, gloves, scarves, and other weather appropriate clothing unless you are in a tropical place. In college, you will find yourself frequently walking around the campus and you definitely would not be thinking about fashion when you are out in the cold. A pair of waterproof boots is also a must.
  5. Choose low-maintenance clothes. This is definitely one thing worth considering especially if doing the laundry and ironing clothes do not belong to your list of favorite things. While these are inescapable personal chores, you can find clothes that are easy to machine wash and do not require pressing. Avoid fabrics or materials that necessitate hand washing.
  6. Get something for sports or recreation. It is not surprising to get involved into some athletic activities or events in college. Find yourself appropriate recreational clothing and footwear.
  7. Have an outfit intended for parties and weekends. For those moments you need to be fashionable, you do not need to be expensive. Buy a few fun pieces that you can again mix and match. Learn to use appropriate accessories such as belts and scarves. Remember to dress up but be careful not to overdo it.

When choosing clothes for college, always remember to go for what is appropriate and you will never go wrong. Fashion does not necessarily have to be on top of your priorities, but choose your clothing according to comfort, function, and style.
