Enrolling for a grammar refresher course can sometimes be a hassle, what with the tuition fee and time you have to spare during the week, lessening your time with your responsibilities at work and at home. I suggest considering self study so that you can brush up on the English grammar after years of being away from school, and here's how you can do it:
- Go get yourself a handy grammar book. Go visit your local bookstore so that you can get a grammar book that you can carry anywhere with you. Make sure that you get a grammar book that would include grammar quizzes along with the checklist for you to know how you are getting along with each grammar quiz. You can read it and study during your free time; your coffee break, travel time or at night before you go to sleep.
- Discover the world of grammar online. There are many sites available on the Internet that would give you basic study on grammar, along with fun and easy grammar quizzes. The Web site englishhorizon.com will provide you with resources on grammar lessons and links on where you can find grammar quizzes online. Another helpful site that you can check out is grammar-quizzes.com, will give you lessong and quizzes at the end on different grammar lessons. These are just a few of my recommendations, but by just typing in grammar quizzes on your Internet search engine, I'm sure you will stumble upon a few helpful Web sites.
- Download grammar podcasts. This is especially useful for ESL students as they can hear how the words are pronounced correctly. You can save the podcast on your mp3 player and listen to grammar lessons while you are on the go. You can even choose from basic study or advanced study podcasts.
- Get comprehensive grammar software. Try out Rosetta Stone which you can check over at rosettastone.com. This is an intensive program which gives you step-by-step lessons and exercises of the English language. It may be a bit pricey but consider how much you are saving compared to enrolling for a grammar refresher course. Also, not only do they offer language-learning software for English, but you can also learn over 30 other languages. You might even be able to squeeze a little French study if you wanted.
There are a lot of ways to find yourself grammar quizzes during your self study. All you have to do is just be resourceful and you're on your way to honing your grammar skills again.
