Get involved. The first step to making a great educational experience for your child is to get involved. It doesn't matter if you have just decided that this is something you need to do and your child is a high school student, or if he or she hasn't yet started school. Your involvement is important and can make a world of difference.
You can get involved by talking with your kids, going to school events where parents are welcome, and talking with your child's teachers.
Start early. If you child hasn't yet started school, now is the perfect time to start enriching his or her education. Get him or her doing activities that teach skills and ideas that are necessary throughout life. This can be done through a wide range of play (with and without you), through trips to the library and museum, and through spending time with kids his or her age.
Have fun learning. One of the most important things to remember in education is that learning should be fun. Kids start out with this excitement and joy of learning, but over time often lose it due to pressures and teaching methods. Help your children continue to have fun learning. Plan fun and educational trips that you share together. Help him or her with her homework, and always try to think of new, fun learning activities.
Share the importance of education without being pushy or causing stress. It is important that your child know that education is important, but you need to instill this in your child without being pushy or causing stress. It isn't good to try and teach this to your child while getting mad at them for under-achieving. It is better to talk with them in low stress situations and let them know the importance of education.
