How To Survive Fraternity Hazing

For many college freshmen they have so many things to get used to.  There are the new friends, new classes and practically a new life.  It can be extremely difficult to situate yourself and if you do not surround yourself around the right people you can feel rather lonely.  One of the best ways to find a group of friends, and possibly even friends for life, is to join a fraternity.

Each year there is a group of freshmen that try to join a fraternity known as a pledge class.  This group of guys becomes as close to being your brothers as possible.  You spend just about every waking hour outside of school with them. While going through the rushing process of joining a fraternity, you will experience some difficult times that will test your medal. There is some hazing that hopefully is not too harsh, but can be difficult to take.  This article is to help you get through fraternity hazing.

Step 1

Make friends.  Going through the hazing process can make you really feel down about yourself. It might seem like all the fraternity brothers are against you and pick on you.  What you will want to do is become close with your fellow pledge class members and use them as support. They will be able to relate to you and keep your spirits high letting you know that they are going through the same thing. This is how you become so close with many of these guys.

Step 2

Don't talk back.  One way to really get yourself in a lot of trouble and make yourself the center of attention the wrong way is to talk back to any of the fraternity brothers.  This is not the time to try and be defiant.  Just do what they say and earn their respect by your actions not your words.

Step 3

Earn respect.  A great way to make it through the hazing process is to connect with the current fraternity brothers.  Even though you are just rushing it does not mean you cannot be friends with the brothers.  Earn their respect by going above and beyond what they ask.  Keep a good attitude and rally your fellow rush brothers together.   Being a leader will help you stand out and earn the respect of the fraternity.

Step 4

Say positive.  Most of all you have to stay positive throughout the whole experience.  You have to tell yourself that it will not last forever and that things will get better.  Many people have gone through the same experience before and many more will go through it again.  It is a ritual and a right of passage to earn the respect and relationship with the fraternity.  Keep a positive outlook and enjoy the experience.

Going off to college can be an incredibly exciting time, but it can also be difficult adjusting to a new place and people.  One way to help that transition is joining a fraternity.  Hopefully this article will help you get through the hazing that it takes to join a fraternity.
