How To Do the iPod Cord Cut Magic Trick

Magic tricks are entertaining to watch, especially if they are done right. It’s amazing to see objects disappear and reappear again right in front of you, leaving you scratching your head wondering how it was done. Magicians often use sleight of hand as a skill to manipulate ordinary materials and fool people into believing only what the magician allows them to see. The magic of the illusion is what enthralls people especially if it is done to them and to their personal items. The iPod cord cut magic trick is one such trick that grips and captivates people, because you’ll seem to be cutting the ear piece cord then magically put it back together like nothing happened. The success of this illusion is how well you can keep the secret to this trick hidden your audience.

1. Prepare the materials you need for this trick. You will need white wire preferably as thin as the iPod’s earbud cord. It needs to look almost exactly like it or people will notice the difference. The wire must be about 8 inches in length. Get a pair of scissors that are small enough to carry around in your pocket. The tips should be rounded so it won’t accidentally hurt you or anyone else. A pair of scissors that are safe for kids use would suffice. Hide the wire in a loop in your right hand and have the ends face towards your fingers.
2. Look around for someone in a group with an iPod. Try to look for a person using an iPod in a group so you’ll have an instant audience for your little magic show. You can practice with your friends in the beginning to refine your performance. Go up to the group and start by telling a little story about how you suddenly gained special powers. People like stories, so give them a good one. Approach the person with the iPod and hold their earbud cord in your left hand and make a loop. Tell that person not to worry your special powers will see to it that no harm comes to your cord.
3. Hide the real cord and replace with your wire. Pretend to fix and prepare the loop but you’ll actually be pushing the real cord with your right hand further down inside the left hand and replacing the loop with the white wire concealed in your right hand. Take care you don’t accidentally give away the trick by letting go of the real cord. 
4. Cut the wire. Now that you have your fake wire in a loop in your left hand and having people believe it is the real one, cut the wire with the pair of scissors. Show the crowd that it is cut into two pieces but do not let go of either cord in your left hand.
5. Finish the magic trick by fusing the cord. Grab the cut wire in your right hand and pretend you’re going to fuse the cord back together with your special powers. What you’re actually doing is taking back the fake cord and hiding it in your right hand. Now let go of the real cord and show the people that you’ve fused it together like nothing happened to it. While people are examining the cord you hide the fake wire in your pocket and out sight.

Practice the movements by yourself in front of the mirror to see how fluid your motions are. When you perfect the hand movements, you will be able to create the illusion.
