You will need both to connect to the digital signals, and get a clear picture on your television. There are plenty of stores that sell converter boxes. This will take $40 off a digital converter box. With your digital converter box and antenna picked out, you can start hooking them up to your TV. Just follow the directions included with your convertor box since everyone is set up differently. Once everything is hooked up, try to adjust the picture on your television either by your remote or the digital antenna. The converter box should recognize a signal through your television right away. If this doesn’t work, then your television may be too old to receive digital signals.

Your next best bet would be to buy a coaxial cable. You can find those at any retailer such as Radio Shack. They come in different lengths, so be sure to buy the one that’s most appropriate for your television. Once it’s hooked up, there should be a picture on your television. The convenience of having coaxial cables is that there is no need to adjust the picture on your television. However, you will need cable signals running throughout your home or apartment in order to get a television picture.

If you don’t have a cable signal, you should call your local cable company. They will come to your house and adjust your television for digital cable. They may need to go to your attic or roof to wire. This wiring is for the cable to run throughout your home. Once that is complete, they will use the digital cable box to adjust your television’s picture. You will notice that the picture on your television will come out clearer than it does with a coaxial cable.

Your other option would be satellite television. This is usually easier to set up and less expensive.
