A triple play refers both to sports and telecommunications. In baseball, a triple play happens when in a continuous play, three outs occur. This is rare because there is a premise that there are at least two runners on base. You cannot teach this easily in boys and girls little league.

As in the case of telecoms, triple play occurs when voice, video and data can be received using just one subscription. It is a mixture of high-speed Internet access, television and telephone. Triple-play network service offers the following standard options:

  1. Telephone service - This includes caller identification, call screening, call forwarding, call waiting, conference calling (2 or more callers), three-way calls and selective call blocking,
  2. Television service - This is composed of legacy network reception, which is a diverse selection of music channels and a wide choice of cable channels. Some may include messaging, interactive viewing and gaming.
  3. Internet service - The basic inclusion of this service is access to the World Wide Web. Additional service is screening of your e-mails and other downloaded software for viruses. There is also a connection filtering options for children and guarantees of security and privacy of communications.

A quadruple play includes a mobile play or broadband option. This is not yet widely used because there must still be more improvements to be made. This triple/quadruple play in the telecommunications is really making the world smaller by making everything accessible to all. Presently, two companies are providing us triple plays — Comcast Corporation and Verizon Communications Inc.

  1. Comcast Corporation - This company founded in 1963 is the largest cable operator in the United States. They are known to be the first and only triple play with free HD (high definition).
