Turn your cell phone off if you know that you are in an area that does not have cell phone service. If you are taking a flight and your cell phone is in your carry-on bag, turn your cell phone off. Otherwise, your phone will continue to search for the best signal available and it will exhaust the battery.
Do not leave your cell phone in an area susceptible to extreme temperatures, especially in your car on a hot day or a cold night.
Do not charge your battery unless it needs to be. Lithium ion batteries to not have a memory setting like old batteries, but they do have a certain number of cycles they can perform. The more you charge, the more quickly it will exhaust your battery.
If you are not going to be using the phone for a while, make sure to take the battery out. Leaving the battery in the phone can also wear it down more quickly.
Try to avoid using chargers that are not supplied by the manufacturer. Sometimes, aftermarket chargers have different voltage outputs that can ruin your battery.
