How To Download Videos to an iPod

DVDs, CDs and vinyl albums are nice if you’re always home, but what if you’re always mobile? Needing some downtime from work and it takes more than looking at something green to relax your body, mind, and spirit? In the mood for Mariah Carey or waxing nostalgic about Eminem but you happen to be on a plane somewhere and can’t listen to it right now?

Look no further than your iPod. Have an entire music and video collection at your fingertips anytime and anywhere!

You’ve got the music but not the videos?

Downloading videos into your iPod begins with iTunes version 6.0 or 7.0. This platform allows you to buy videos and TV episodes for your iPod. You can then begin downloading using these steps:

For iTunes version 7.0:

  1. Select the video you’d like to download from Google video.
  2. Click on "Download video-iPod/PSP" on the available link of the video you want to download.
  3. Save the video on your computer.
  4. Take your iPod and connect it to your computer.
  5. Open your application for iTunes.
  6. Once in iTUnes, select "File" then click on "Add File to Library." Look for the video you just downloaded and proceed to click “Open.”
  7. Proceed to select the “Movies” tab.
  8. Tick the box for "Sync movies."
  9. Finally, click “Apply.”

For iTunes version 6.0:

  1. Browse through Google video and select the video you wish to download.
  2. Click on "Download video-iPod/PSP"" on the available link of the video you want to download.
  3. Save the video on your computer.
  4. Take our iPod and connect it to your computer.
  5. Open your application for iTunes.
  6. Once in iTUnes, select "File" then click on "Add File to Library." Look for the video you just downloaded and proceed to click “Open.”
  7. Again in iTunes, proceed to progressively click on “Edit” then “Preferences” then “iPod” then “Videos” until “Automatically Update All Videos.” Finally, select “OK” when you’re finished. Your freshly downloaded videos will see its way into your iPod.

If you’ve used up what iTunes has to offer, there are free and legal sites to get your videos for downloading on your iPod. Some of these are the Internet Archives; PodGuide,TV; Channel Frederator; and, Channel 101 and 102.

To convert home movies, DVDs and multimedia files to your iPod, you have to first purchase a conversion Software that is capable of converting DVDs, MPEG, OGG, ASF, WMV, DVD, DivX to iPod. You can even plug in your iPod to your TV after conversion.
