If you want to add to your music library on you iPod, follow these steps on how to rip CDs for your iPod.
If you've got an iPod, then you already know how great these little musical devices are. An iPod can store thousands of songs, pictures, movies and so on, all of which you can access with the touch of a finger. Songs can come from your personal mp3 collection, or you can transfer songs from CD directly to your computer and then to your iPod. If you want to add to your music library on you iPod, follow these steps on how to rip CDs for your iPod.
Step 1:

Install iTunes. If you are an iPod owner, then you should have a copy of Apple's free iTunes software. If you haven't already done so, install this program onto your computer. This is the software that you'll need in order to rip CDs for your iPod, so make sure you have this specific program. (Other programs are available, but these instructions are specifically geared toward the iTunes software). If you don't have it, ask to borrow a friend's installation disk, or look online at www.apple.com where iTunes is available for free download.

Step 2:

Insert your music CD. Once you have successfully installed iTunes onto your computer, open the program. Then put the music disc you want to rip to your iPod into your computer's CD drive. Immediately, the iTunes software should ask you what you want to do with the music on the CD. You should click "yes" and import the music from the CD to your library.

If iTunes does not prompt you, go to "File" on the taskbar at the top of the screen and click on "Import" or "Add to Library."

Once you have asked iTunes to import or "rip" the music from your music CD into your library, your computer will automatically start looking for the CD information (artist and track info) online. Connect to the internet if you want to save yourself from having to title each track yourself. If you can't connect to the Internet, right-click on each track and choose "Get Info." Then edit each song name and artist so that you can easily find it once it is ripped to your iPod.

Step 3:

Transfer the ripped songs to your iPod. Once you have successfully imported the songs from your music CD to your computer library using iTunes, you can now begin to rip the music to your iPod. (Music has to be on your computer first before you can rip it to your iPod. Only songs in your library can be transferred to your iPod.)

To transfer song files to you iPod, plug your iPod's USB cable into your iPod and connect that cable to your computer. You'll know if you have done this correctly because the name of your iPod should show up on the left hand side of the screen within a few seconds. Once it is there, go into your music library where you just imported the files from the CD and highlight the tracks you want to rip to your iPod. Click and drag each song to your iPod name or right-click and select the option to transfer the song to your iPod. Each time you select and transfer a song, a circular arrow button will appear while the song is being ripped to your iPod. When the icon disappears, the song has been copied to your iPod and you can continue to drag and drop other songs you want on your iPod. Continue to do this until you have successful transferred all of the songs you wanted from your ripped CD onto your iPod.
