The iPod Nano looks and feels like the iPod classic with the colored display and click wheel, except the iPod Nano is a lot smaller. In terms of storage, the iPod classic uses a hard disk while the iPod Nano utilizes flash memory, but the iPod Classic still has the larger storage capacity. Most people feel the iPod Nano is more handy, especially when doing activities like various sports and when at work. Its small enough to fit into any pant or shirt pocket. The only problem one might have with the iPod nano is its battery life; it could be improved to give more hours of entertainment. Usage of the iPod Nano can be extended by putting in a high capacity replacement battery, especially when the iPod Nano’s battery performance falls below the standard. You can install a high capacity battery in your iPod Nano by yourself by following these simple steps.
- Purchase a replacement battery. Get yourself an iPod Nano high capacity battery as a replacement for the faulty one on your iPod Nano. You can find a 450mAH replacement battery for the Nano, which may also include some tools to help open your iPod Nano.
- Prepare necessary tools and work area. You’ll need the proper tools to open the iPod Nano because not all iPod models have edges that you can push to make it easier to open. It may take some time to open the iPod Nano, so you’ll need to have the right tools to pry the iPod open and avoid scratching the iPod Nano in the process. The replacement battery package may come with tools to help pry open the casing. If not, then a plastic guitar pick can do the job just as well. You need a soldering iron and solder, because the battery is soldered on. The work area has to be lined with a soft cloth that won’t scratch the iPod surface.
- Open the iPod Nano case. Carefully and gently use the pry tool around where the iPod Nano casing should separate. Slowly push the pry tool or guitar pick along the sides until you can insert part of the tool and push the casing apart. Make sure to do this slowly, and never force the casing apart. The sides will contain clips along the inside, and you’ll be loosening this part to pry open the casing.
- Remove the old battery and solder the new battery. Now that you’ve opened the casing, you can proceed to attach the new battery. First remove the old battery from its position. It has a little adhesive, but you can lift it out of its place. The three wires need to be removed with the soldering iron. Heat up one end of the wire, and when the solder melts pull out the wire. Tweezers can help with handling the small thin wires. Once the wires are all disconnected, you can put away the old battery and continue to solder the new battery in. The wires are color coded, so just follow how the old battery was wired.
- Return casing. The little clips that lined the inside of the casing need to be pushed in a little, since it was loosened when we were opening the casing. Pushing these back will hold the casing firmly in its place. Return the top part of the iPod Nano casing back in its place by pushing them slowly back into their original state.
When an iPod battery gets old it loses its original performance, so replacing the old battery with a high capacity one can help remedy this.
