These days almost everywhere you go there will be security cameras or CCTVs (Closed Circuit Television) monitoring an area. You used to always see them in shops to monitor and record the day’s events and most especially to document suspicious activities. Its mere presence also helps prevent criminal activities from taking place. Now with the growing need for security, a video camera can be seen almost anywhere, observing an area from all angles. Video cameras have also gotten smaller and more portable these past few years. You even have a video camera on your cellular phone or portable media device. Some people value their privacy and the ability to go about their daily lives without looking over their shoulder to see who’s watching them or recording their activities. For whatever reason you’d want to hide your face from these video cameras, there is a way to make an invisible mask and keep your face from being seen by video cameras. Actually you’ll just be blinding the video camera with a couple of LEDs near your face so the camera won’t be able to record the portion behind the light.
1. Prepare the equipment to be used.
On this project you’ll need 10 high intensity infrared LEDs, 20 pieces of thin electrical wire measuring about 2 meters and preferably in two colors like 10 pieces white and 10 pieces red, a glue gun, electrical tape, and a nine volt battery.
2. Find head gear you won’t mind putting holes into.
A type of hat that you regularly wear would do, so it won’t look too obvious that you’re hiding something.
3. Poke holes in the hat.
Poke 10 holes in the front portion of the hat with a pair of scissors, just big enough for the LEDs to peek through. How you want to arrange those holes is totally up to you, but they have to be on the front part of the hat and not too far apart but not too close together.
4. Assemble the LEDs with the wires and battery.
Take the red pieces of electrical wire and connect them to the longer leg of the LED, which is the positive charge and the white one to the negative, which is the shorter leg. You can twist the leg and the wire together, just make sure it is secure.
Poke the LEDs through the hole you made in your hat and secure it with the hot glue gun. Then take all the red wire together and twist the length to keep them together and do the same with the white wire. Bind the wire together with electrical tape. Secure the wire inside and around the hat towards the back side. This is where we place the battery. Connect the red wire to the positive charge of the battery and the white to the negative. Secure the battery inside the back of the hat.
The high intensity infrared red LEDs will blind cameras but won’t be seen by the human eye. Try it out at home with a video camera and see if you are getting the right results so you’ll know where to make adjustments.
