High-Definition Television, which became available in 1998, is a new technology used on television systems. It is broadcasted via discrete digital signals. High-Definition Television offers higher resolution compared to Analog Television and Standard-Definition Television; the resolution is five times better. High-Definition television's minimum resolution is 720p but can support up to 1080p and a length-to-height ration of 16:9. High-definition is a great way to enjoy watching television, and you have two options in services you can choose from: satellite and cable service.

  • Cable Television service is a good option to choose because it provides consistent video clarity and a good reception. This service does not encounter issues on signal drops where antenna or analog signal is bad. Also, depending on the cable provider, they can offer more channels than High-Definition Television antennas do. The basic service offers a long list of channels that you can choose from, and local channels available in HD are free of charge. A variety of channels, for an additional charge, like premium and Chinese channels are also available. Because Cable Television installation and operating costs are high, the service could be expensive, so providers more often have promotional offers, as compared to satellite. These discounts are typically available to customers who have internet and digital phone service packaged with the cable television subscription. Some providers also offer campaigns like free installation with three months worth of free service for new subscribers.

  • For some people, satellite television is a much better option because it is, more often than not, cheaper than cable television. Its picture quality could be equal to what cable television has, but sometimes they even have better resolution than cable. The satellite dish needs to be placed in an unobstructed area and should be pointed to the southern sky. Although satellite television offers better picture clarity, there are times when the quality diminishes when there is heavy snow or rain. Another great thing about satellite television subscription is that they can offer the channel programming that you really require, because there are some channels available in HD that are not offered in cable service. Another thing you have to consider when getting satellite service is if you care about your aesthetics; keep in mind that a satellite dish will be installed, and this could be a problem for some neighborhoods who are very concerned about house designs and appearances.

If we are going to judge using picture quality and resolution, both services are good, but in the end, you should decide which service you want based on your family’s choice of channels and lifestyle.
