How To Buy Bridal Shower Favors

Bridal shower favors are a time-honored tradition. Choosing and purchasing favors is quite simple.

  1. Decide on the shower's theme. Once you select a theme, the rest will easily fall into place. To choose a theme, have a discussion among all of those who are sharing in the hosting duties. In most cases, the bridal party or the bride's closest female family members will host. If the shower falls on or near a holiday, use that holiday as the party's theme. A shower falling around Easter, for instance, can have a pastel, spring-type theme. If you're not interested in a particular theme, use the colors the bride has chosen for her wedding. These colors are generally the same color as the bridesmaid's dresses.

  • Set a budget. Once you've decided upon a theme, your next most important item of business is to set a budget. Favors should be affordable for all involved. Fortunately, there are so many options available for all budgets.
  • Look for ideas. This is the fun part. Designate one or two members of the shower committee to look for great favor ideas in the approved price range. There are many places to begin your search. For instance, party stores not only have many ready-made favor options, they also offer options for building your own favors. The Internet is a wonderful tool for garnering favor ideas. List your favorites and the prices for each. Compile a list of favor ideas, preferably with pictures to show to all of the decision-makers. Keep in mind favors should match the shower's décor and theme. For instance, if you will be sending your guests home with candle wedding shower favors, and you've chosen a black and white theme, the candles should be black and white as well.
  • Discuss the ideas among yourselves. Once a list of favors is compiled, the shower committee should decide on its favorites. There may be some arguing involved, but do try to keep it civil so as not to put a damper on the occasion. Narrow the list down to one favorite item, and one item to use as a "back-up."
  • Go Shopping! The designated favor shopper should now have the committee's blessing to go shopping. Before you embark upon your trip, however, make sure to call the bridal favor supply venue to confirm that your chosen favor has enough units in stock. You might even ask the store manager to set the allotted amount aside to ensure no one else picks them up. Of course, if you order the favors online, you won't have to make any phone calls. Do allow for enough shipping time. You may want to pay a higher price for shipping to ensure a timely delivery.
  • That's it! That's all there is to it! Now go forth and find some wonderful bridal shower favors.
