One of the greatest joys of owning your own home is the yard that comes with it. It’s your land to enjoy however you see fit--growing a garden, putting in a pool, mowing crop circles to communicate with alien races to let them know that anal probing won’t answer their questions…

How To Support Someone Who Is Grieving

Death has to be the most difficult thing we go through. Many of our problems in life eventually go away or get better. Many of them we solve on our own by getting a new job, a new husband or new home. Death is final. Even believers who know they will see their loved ones in Heaven do not always find comfort in that. Because we are all unique as individuals, no one else can take the place of a lost loved one. When you have been close to someone who dies, the thought of never seeing him or her alive again is almost more than you can bear.

How To Be a Good Friend

Friendship is a mutual relationship. It involves a lot of sacrifice so if you are wondering why you don't seem to have any good friends, you should probably look inside. I mean check yourself, ask certain questions; how much do you sacrifice to see that your friendship works? How much do you contribute? Now, I am not saying you must play the fool just to have a good friendship, but sacrifices are necessary sometimes. Being a good friend sometimes is determined by your level of understanding of each other, what you consider while picking your friend. This to a large extent depends on who you are, the things you like, etc., so when you find someone who has the same interests as you, you tend to bond easily. But choosing friends is only one half of it all; the other half is being a good friend. We will take a look at how you can accomplish this in a few easy steps:

How To Change Misperceptions About You

How many times have you been in a situation where you think, “What are they going to think about me if I do this or that?” Or, “Maybe this person thinks that I am not good enough to perform this activity,” or, “it is better if I do not ask because I will look like a fool,” among other thoughts? Most of the time we answer ourselves with the precise answer that is focused into letting us see the worst of ourselves.

Many times, we wonder why our friends act the way they do. Over time, our relationships with friends can dwindle merely because we become too self-centered and pay less attention to them. Relationships need constant attention to stay in good shape. Here are a few ways to recharge your relationships with those around you:

How To Forgive

When you forgive, you get your life back. When you forgive, you free your mind. When you forgive, you can continue to put your energies on your priorities, and not pettiness. When you don’t forgive, you don’t act the way you normally do, but you act according to your bitterness. In so doing, you allow your un-forgiveness to keep controlling you.

Forgiveness can lead to reconciliation, if the other person is repentant, but don’t drop your standards to reconcile with people. If you do, they will hurt you again. Forgiveness does not mean that you condone what they did--forgiveness is letting go of the offense they caused you, so that you can have your life back. However, when you forgive people, you can still remember what they did, but you stop blaming them, because you know that everyone can make a mistake. Here are ten tips that will help you to forgive:

How To Remain Faithful when Traveling

Once I was going to Brasilia to study about air safety with some people from the Air Force. It was a long journey inside a bus because the Navy did not give air passage for everybody (it´s funny -- I was going to study about air safety but using bus to the class!). It had been a long time since my last travels by bus; normally I travel with the Navy’s helicopters, but not this special time, and I knew nobody inside the vehicle. The long drive was scheduled to last 18 hours, which inspired me to read a book. The trip started at 11:30 am and before 7:00 pm I had finished the reading. What to do now? Nothing, other than to watch the boring landscape through the window and look around the bus.

How To Overcome Shyness to Make Friends

Shyness may seem harmless if doesn't interfere with our social and/or professional lives, but it gets really frustrating when shyness gets in the way of our day-to-day lives and we miss out on way too many opportunities. In fact, it is a good personality attribute for one to be shy up to some extent because you may be less likely to brag, gossip or be too moody and demanding. Also, shy people are usually good and loyal friends. In reality, there is no one who never feels shy, but if the shyness is severe enough to keep one from meeting new people, making friends and preventing one from doing what he wants to do, then it is a problem to be treated. In this article, we will discuss in detail some causes of shyness and provide you some tips to overcome this problem.

How To Resolve Relationship Conflicts

Everyone of us has differences and disagreements. But healthy people find ways to resolve conflicts without turning them into wars. As simple as this Ten Step exercise looks, you must take your time to work on all of the steps. Learn one step at a time. Do not skip a step. Each step is built onto the next step, until all ten steps are learned. Look at this as learning a new dance with your partner or friend. This dance is made up of ten steps. As you learn each step, the dance starts to evolve and you will find that the steps become easier and the dance more enjoyable.

Print out and complete the following ten steps on paper. It is much easier to write out your answers than to do all the work in your head. It will help you stay focused as you practice each step. Remember you're learning something new which is not visible to the eye. When you write down your answers, the steps will become visible to you and to your partner.

If being around famous people intimidates you, the advice in this article may help put you more at ease. After all, aside from being well-known by the masses, these folks have the same basic needs, hang-ups, pressures, and feelings as you and I -- and, like all of us, they have to deal with everything life throws at them, except they often must deal with these issues in public. So, let me use examples of the celebs I've "rubbed shoulders with" to show you what I'm talking about.

How To Be a Friend by Listening Instead of Speaking

Probably one of the hardest things we as humans have to deal with is helping our friends when we feel they need us the most. Many times, we would like to offer advice, only to find it is neither needed nor wanted. Many times, a friend just needs to bend someone's ear.

Here are a few situations when it is better to just listen and talk less.

How To Tell Your Friend She's Dating a Loser

You get the phone call. It's your friend rambling on about someone she met at the bar the night before. She is sure not to miss a single juicy detail about the evening or the person that she seems to have fallen head over heels for within a few hours and a few drinks. Sometimes it can be dismissed as a one-night stand, but sometimes, hours turn into days, which turn into weeks.

Finally, you meet this so-called Mr. Wonderful, but in the end, you're left scratching head wondering, "What the hell does my friend see in this person?" He's rude, controlling, thoughtless and sometimes, downright mean. Sometimes he has no ambition, no goals and empties your friend's bank account. Let's face it. We've all been there. It's your job, as the good friend that you are, to let your friend know that she is, in fact, dating a loser.

How To Keep in Touch with Faraway Friends

We've all had the experience of a close friend moving away. Instead of seeing this friendship as lost, try to look at it as an opportunity to have a different sort of friendship. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, as well as the old-fashioned postal service, there are plenty of ways to keep in touch with your faraway friends.

How To Help a Friend with a Drinking Problem

We all know the "one friend." He or she is the life of the party, always game for a good time. But the friend tends to go too far and ends up sloppy and troubling. Maybe she has gotten a DUI or lost her job. Perhaps he gets mean and is hard to hang out with after a certain number of drinks. Or maybe he disappears, has become unreliable and even very depressed.

One thing is certain. You have a loved one who is drinking too much and you're worried. Very worried. So what do you do?

How To Develop a Pleasant, Approachable Appearance

Some years ago, The New Yorker had an article about people who commit suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. About every two weeks, someone jumps from the bridge. The article told of a victim’s psychiatrist who was going through the person’s apartment after he jumped. He found a hand-written note left on the man’s bureau. The note said, “I’m going to walk to the bridge. If one person smiles at me, I will not jump.”

How To Meet New People

Lots of websites, articles, and chat rooms have advice for where to go to meet new people, but not how to meet them once you get there. Anyone, no matter where you live, can find a location where people gather: join a club, take a class, volunteer in your community. But once you're in a room full of people, then what? The trick is finding a way to approach someone and get them talking to you. It isn't hard, but it does require action on your part-you can't just assume that if you show up in a room full of people that they will come over and talk to you. Remember, they might also be there trying to meet new people and it isn't easy for them, either.

Some people make it seem effortless… they glide across a room and, after just a few words, have kindled a warm conversation. For the rest of us, however, starting a conversation may require more effort. Here are a few tips to make the process smoother and more painless for all involved.

How To Improve Your Punctuality

Ever wonder how it is that people who seem perfectly reasonable, intelligent and otherwise considerate somehow never learn to be on time? It's as if they're in a state of perpetual bafflement when it comes to their tardiness. How is this possible, you wonder, when they're chronically late for every engagement in their lives? Well take it from me, a person for whom punctuality had always been an elusive beast - it is possible for lateness to be a constant, unpleasant surprise for someone, and there are ways to break the habit.

How To Shake Hands

Let's face it: Some people--like the Kennedys--know how to shake hands. And considering that you can make or break a deal--or an election--depending upon how well you shake hands, it's important that you learn how to shake hands well:

First impressions. Your handshake will do much to establish a first impression of yourself. Even if your hand is greasy, sweaty or otherwise less-than-presentable, give it a quick swipe, and extend it anyway. Extending a hand is an important symbol of friendship, approachability, trustworthiness and it is all-important in establishing an initial connection with another person. Really, the significance of a handshake cannot be overstated--if you don't have a passable handshake, you aren't getting the job.

How To Recognize Cocaine Addiction

Statistics are a funny thing. To hear that 2.8 percent of Americans age 15-64 consume cocaine, one might feel like cocaine abuse is a somewhat marginal concern. Yet half of the world's consumption of cocaine occurs in the United States - roughly 300 metric tons of it per year. A sobering statistic, made more sobering by the knowledge of what cocaine does to the human body. Whether snorted, eaten, injected or smoked, cocaine is potentially deadly, and no one can predict a fatal dose. Here are some perils of long-term, unresolved cocaine addiction and even short-term abuse in some cases.
