A wedding is a celebration of Love. Whether you are planning a small intimate gathering or a large banquet, a traditional religious service or a unique spiritual ritual, the ceremony is truly its' centerpiece. Oftentimes in planning this special life passage, questions about the date, the place, your wedding party, the menu, the cost, the music and the flowers overshadow the creation of the ceremony. The truth is, creating your ceremony is meaningful and rewarding, since the result is a ceremony truly reflecting who you are as a couple and your vision of your marriage.

How To Make a Speech

Some people would prefer to dive over a cliff than make a speech. They conjure up all kinds of nightmare scenarios: What if I freeze? What if the audience hates me on sight? What if no one laughs except in places they shouldn't? Will everyone remember the mistakes I make for the rest of my life?

And yet, by learning a few techniques used by professional speakers -- who are very often the most scared of all -- you can not only conquer your nerves, you can also make a powerful impression and within seconds, actually start to enjoy the whole experience. Here's how.

First, check how you look. Dress appropriately, and be well groomed, so you feel comfortable and smart. Dressing professionally also helps the audience feel you've taken trouble for them and that they are respected. But make sure you don't go too far and unintentionally distract them, for example, with a man's flashy tie or a woman's low neckline.

The lights, the music, the calming snow...all of which can easily set the scene for your big day without you having to do a lot of work. However, this time of year can get costly. Some proper planning and a watchful eye can make your special day one that even your guests will remember for years to come.

How To Look Good in Your Wedding Photos

Of course the very best memories of your wedding will be captured by your mind's eye, not the camera. But the photos will be what end up in the album, so might as well look your best! Here are a few tips to looking good in your wedding photos:

Don't skimp on the photographer. Everyone looks for places to trim costs when planning a wedding, but skimping on your photography budget is not the place to do it. If you have a choice between a photographer and a photographer and an assistant, go for the latter since two sets of eyes are better than one. Also ask for a wide variety of shots--color, black and white, candid and posed--and increase the options you have to choose from.

How To Save Money on a Wedding Photographer

The top three wedding expenses are usually the wedding location, the wedding dress, and the photographer. When so much time, effort, money and love have gone into this one special day, it's understandable that one would want it to be preserved beautifully on film. There are ways, however, to save significant money on a wedding photographer without sacrificing quality.

College students- If your local college has an art program, it's highly likely that they have a photography program within it. By calling the college directory, you can get the names of photography professors or department heads. When you reach them, ask if they have senior level students who are excelling at action and portrait photography. More than likely, they will be able to give you the contact information for a few bright and talented students who have the training to take beautiful pictures without charging you an arm and a leg.

How To Write Wedding Thank You Cards

Admit it. One of the best parts about getting married-besides making an official, lifelong commitment to your soul mate-is racking in the wedding gifts. Even better, if you've opened a bridal registry online or at your local department store, you're receiving items you've specifically chosen for yourself. Score!

Of course, for every wedding present that lands on your doorstop, you need to send a handwritten note of thanks to the generous gift-giver. For wedding presents, a quick email, a phone call or computer-generated letter is not going to cut it. Your best friend, your co-worker and your Great Aunt Edna took the time to purchase a gift-or give you cash-to mark your nuptials, so the least you can do is handwrite a thank-you note, address an envelope, stick a stamp on it and send it on its merry way. Here's how:

How To Preserve Wedding Dresses

Your wedding gown is the dress you've dreamt of and imagined yourself wearing on that wonderful day. It only makes sense that you want to take care of it the best you can. Follow these steps to make sure your dress remains gorgeous throughout the years to come.

The following steps should be taken BEFORE getting your dress professionally dry cleaned:

Purchase a clean, undyed, undersized, unbleached cotton sheet. You can find this at almost any home outfitting store, like Bed, Bath & Beyond. Make sure the sheet has as little synthetic fiber as possible!

Wash the sheet in hot water (without detergent) to remove any dirt or sizing.

On your wedding day, as soon as you take the dress off, wrap it in the sheet. NEVER store your gown in a plastic bag. Plastics decompose, causing rapid oxidation of the fabric, which will leave acid residues on your dress!

How To Call Off a Wedding

What you are about to do will be stressful, awkward, embarrassing and hurtful, and one of the hardest things you've ever done. But it will be good for you. How can calling off a wedding be good for you? Because you are listening to your inner guidance. Finally. Somehow you had convinced yourself that marrying your fiance was the right thing to do and for months now, you've squelched that inner voice screaming "no."

But you came to your senses. Before the wedding! Many women hear that same voice but choose not to listen because they're scared-scared of what people will say, scared of hurting feelings, scared that they won't meet another man-scared, scared, scared. In store for them and their families are years of unhappiness that could have been prevented if only they'd had the courage to listen to themselves.

That being said, these next few weeks won't be easy. Here are a few pointers to get you through them intact:

How To Plan Wedding Receptions

This is the most fun part of the wedding and believe it or not, it can be great fun planning it, too. Here are some ideas to make your wedding reception planning go smoothly:

Before selecting a location for the reception, be sure to visit it in person. Do not just look at pictures or ads. If you like the look of the location, get information on possible menus and prices. Venues are usually a little cheaper if you reserve them on a Friday or Sunday as Saturday is the busy day for weddings. Ask if there is a way you can taste the food before you sign a contract. There is nothing more embarrassing for the bride and groom then to have bad food served to their guests.

How To Find Plus Size Wedding Dresses

It may take a bit of looking but finding the right plus size gown is not only possible, but also easier than you think.

Wedding gowns are usually ordered a year in advance. If you are going to diet and intend on losing some weight before the wedding, be honest with yourself. Ask yourself if the extra weight is something you actually can lose. If you have been overweight all your life, chances are the weight will still be with you for your wedding. Order the dress in the size you are now and if you do lose weight, alterations can be made before the big day.

Have someone go with you when you shop for the gown. A relative or close friend will give you some honest feedback as you try the dresses on.

Keep to a style that goes straight down or only flares slightly. A flared out dress will only make you look larger than you really are.
How To Buy Mother of the Bride Dresses

Your daughter has announced her wedding and aside from all the things that you have to do to help, you also need to get a very special dress for yourself. Here are some tips to help you decide which is the perfect gown for you.

Where to shop? You can go to a bridal shop where they will have gowns just for moms, but don't discount department stores and specialty dress shops. Look around before you make your final decision. You never know where you'll find the gown of your dreams!

Make sure you have an idea of what you can spend. Remember that weddings can be expensive and that the dress is not the only purchase you will make . You will want to have your hair and makeup done, you will need to buy shoes, and so on. It's a good idea to make a list for yourself on what you need and how much you can afford to spend on each item. Then shop for your gown with this budget in mind.
How To Buy Flower Girl Dresses

If you have decided to have a flower girl in your wedding, you will need to select a dress for her to wear. Here are some tips on buying a great flower girl dress for your littlest bridal attendant.

Who picks the dress? Traditionally, the bride-to-be chooses the flower girl's dress, just as she picks the bridesmaids' gowns. However, in some instances, the bride may ask the flower girl's mother to select an appropriate dress, within constraints (such as color or length).

Who pays for the flower girl's dress? Usually, the parents of the flower girl are responsible for buying her dress, although you can certainly offer to help them with the purchase if you are so inclined.
How To Start Wedding Planning

There are many details to planning a wedding even if it's a small one. Below you will find tips that I hope will cover just about everything for an average wedding; you can then fine-tune by eliminating things you don't need or by adding things you do need for your own special event.

Church or ceremony locations often get booked a year in advance or more, so once you know the date of the wedding, you should book your ceremony. If the date is taken, try a different time of that day, if none is available, you can look elsewhere or change your date.

How To Choose Wedding Ceremony Music

Finding your wedding ceremony music can present many challenges including the type of music to play and the way to play it, whether it is a string quartet or the church's organist. The music you select sets the mood for the entire day and should not only be appropriate, but should means something to you.

How To Buy Wedding Reception Decorations

After the wedding is out of the way, it's time to party! The reception is where you can let loose and have a good time. Nevertheless, proper planning is necessary to ensure that reception decorations reflect the feel of the wedding, which of course should reflect your personal style. Here are some considerations when choosing wedding reception decorations.

Set a budget. Your reception will likely be more expensive than the wedding, so make sure to set enough aside for it. Keep in mind the costs for food and entertainment while choosing decorations.

Location is a huge consideration. Will the reception be indoor or outdoor? Plain reception halls may require some serious decorating, whereas charming lodges or outdoor locations may be naturally captivating and may not need detailed decorations.
How To Buy Bridesmaids' Dresses

Buying bridesmaids' dresses can be one of the most fun parts of planning your wedding. It can also be one of the most stressful. Traditionally, the bride will pick out the color, and the girls will decide and agree on the style. The only exception being that the necklines of the bridesmaid's dresses should be similar to the neckline of the bridal gown.

When it comes to color, the most common practice is to pick one solid color, such as blue or teal for example. All the girls wear the same color and the same dress. This includes the maid of honor.

The bride may also decide on one color for all the bridesmaids but select a different color, or shade of the color (lighter or darker) for the maid of honor.

The rainbow wedding is another option. This is where each girl wears her own color, but the same style dress. These colors are usually pastel, but darker colors can work just as well.
