How To Act Around Girls

Girls can be scary when you aren't used to spending time with them. Girls seem to travel in packs and have a secret code language. If you know how to act around girls, you can spend time with them without being intimidated. Follow these steps to learn how to act around girls.

1. Show some respect. Do not treat girls like you see them treated on TV or in music videos. That is not realistic and may be disrespectful. Be nice and value the girl for who she is. This means open doors for her when you can. Don't talk to her about other girls or compare girls to each other. It is rude and can cause hurt feelings.
2. Listen. Girls tend to be talkers so you need to be willing to listen. Let girls know their opinion matters to you. Pay attention to details when they talk. You can learn about what they like and don't like if you are just willing to listen.
3. Be yourself. Don't lie, hide or cheat. No one likes a liar. When you decide to be fake to impress a girl she will just be disappointed when she finds out it wasn't true. Have some confidence in yourself and the girls will like to be around you.

Just remember that the fart jokes, crude behavior and bad language that makes boys laugh may not make her laugh. Be careful and be funny without being mean.
6. Let her have her space. It is tempting to get as close as possible to a girl you are interested in. You might think that as long as you are touching her you are not getting too close but you might be wrong. Every person has different levels of personal space so you need to be respectful of hers. If you stand close and she seems nervous, you should take a step back. She may need room to breathe or to talk.
7. Avoid surprising girls with physical contact. When you see girls hugging each other and other boys they know you might think that you should hung your female friends too. This might not be true. You need to have a comfort level before you tough, hug or hold hands. Don't sling your arm around a friend and expect her to be comfortable with it. Let the girl decide when touches are okay.
8. Be nice. When you are in doubt about how to act around a girl, go for the nice. This means not picking on a boy smaller than you, telling mean stories or bullying someone. You might think that nice boys finish last and never get any attention but you are wrong. Girls like a boy who treats everyone with respect.
