Each one of us must rely on communicating in order to live in this world. Sometimes communication is easy and our dealings are in harmony with others. Yet, this is not always the case. Think of the last time you tried to clearly explain to your hairdresser what you wanted your hair to look like or tried to explain to your mother-in-law exactly what you meant when you told her something about her son. There are times when our words are misinterpreted and completely misunderstood.
You can increase your communication skills.
These simple techniques can be applied to every situation to help you along your path.
Nod your head. People can think far faster than you can talk. If you want someone to agree with what you are saying, nod your head slightly up and down. This simple body language will encourage whomever you are speaking with to agree with you!
Be respectful of space. Everyone has a spatial requirement. Don't stand too close to someone when you are speaking with him. You know people who are close talkers? These types of conversations make some people want to jump out of their skin. Keep this in mind, especially if you've eaten garlic or onions for lunch!
Smile. Smiling will not only make you feel better, but also whomever you are speaking with. You can also smile with your eyes; this takes practice, but the benefits of learning how to eye smile can produce communication candy!
Use a firm handshake. When you first meet someone, be sure to shake his hand firmly and look directly into his eyes. There is nothing worse than receiving a flimsy handshake from someone.
Handshakes can tell you a lot about people. Someone who extends his hand far away from his body was most likely raised in the country whereas someone from the city will keep his arm close to his body when he shakes hands. This has to do with the spatial requirement I mentioned earlier. People from the city are used to having less space than those raised in the country. Regardless of where someone was raised, a handshake says a lot about you.
Tap your throat chakra. When there is a conversation or a presentation where you need to clearly be heard, tap your throat chakra. This energy center, located at the base of the throat, is responsible for our communication.
Tap the area between the collarbone at the base of the throat three times. This will help you to speak clearly and efficiently.
