Although families now usually spend ‘quality’ time by going out to the movies together or ‘malling’ or dining out, there is still no best way for a family to reconnect than right in their own homes. After all, home is where you can truly linger over food, unwind with your feet up, and have a hearty laugh and conversation without worrying about disturbing other people – that is, if in the first place your home can be considered lovable or charming. Here are some easy ways to tender up and warm up your home:
- Designate a ‘Special’ spot on your refrigerator door. There, yo ucan dispay loving notes between you and your kids or husband, kid’s artwork, high-marked exams, or photos or letters from family friends and relatives.
- Display lots of pictures or collectibles. These often make the best reminders of happy days and the nice simple things in life. It’s also a great way to start conversations.
- Spend time in the kitchen. If you have a talent for baking or cooking, flaunt it. There is nothing more inviting than a home filled with the aroma of freshly prepared goodies, be it brownies or simple slushies. Cooking or baking is also a good way to spend time with your kids.
- Make your home smell good. Invest in those scented candles or potpourri you see everywhere at the mall. A great-smelling home is always wonderful to come home to. It’ll help you and your hubby to relax after a long, tiring day.
- Speaking of candles, don’t just stow away those candles you often get as gifts. Candles are delightful touches to any room for whatever purpose – whether it’s to create a light mood in your living room, a romantic atmosphere in your bedroom, or a soothing ambiance in your bathroom.
You could easily display candles more creatively by placing them in clear bowls, then filling up with stones or even your son’s toy marbles or your daughter’s colored craft sands and glitters.
- Another warm touch to any room are pillows of various shapes or sizes. If you want to put a little character into pillowcases, embellish with buttons, brooches, pins, or patches. You can even make one pillow for each member of the family using their own old shirt, hanky, or baby blanket.
- If you and your spouse are music lovers, soft pretty music playing in the background can do wonders for your spirit any time of the day. Soft music also helps calm hyperactive toddlers or crying babies. Lastly…
- Make your comfort rooms and bedrooms truly comfortable. Putting small touches such as a small plant, hand towels, or extra throws for chilly nights show one of the hallmarks of a true homemaker.
It’s important to have a home in which each family member may recharge their personal batteries. And this is very much attainable. All you need is some extra love, and a little imagination.
