It is hard to make a transition from someone you have known for ages as a neighbor and are now interested in them as a dating partner. This particular neighbor is probably one of many that are in close proximity of your home and are aware of your comings and goings.  The involvement of dating your neighbor needs to be a process that is not entered into lightly.  Give much thought and preparation before beginning a new relationship with an old neighbor.  Being a homeowner will put you at a higher level of risk when considering dating a neighbor.  The relationship may begin on a good note and end in despair.  Regardless of the dating outcome, you will both probably remain in your homes, for better or worse.

Weather permitting, keep your meetings light and in mutual spaces in your yard for a cook out that involves other neighbors or friends. Make the occasions casual and take your time with continuing the natural flow of your relationship.  Mingling with other neighbors and friends will allow them to see a natural transition between you and the neighbor.  This turn is because you are taking a new dating direction in your relationship.  By your conversations you will be able to enjoy making a connection by sharing mutual interests.  Building on these mutual interests will lead to dating beyond your home.  Public dates at movies, plays, restaurants, and sports events have a connotation of innocence that beginning dating should entail.

After a period of time, the dating scene can become or evolve into a deepening and more meaningful dating period.  Having dinners in your homes can create a more stimulating atmosphere to explore the possibilities of continuing your dating experience.  Inviting mutual friends and neighbors over for a night of games or cards will involve others in your relationship and open it to a new dimension of seriousness.

Going slowly will enable both dating partners and neighbors to accept the relationship with greater ease. When the awkward period is over, a more established dating routine can take place.  The newness will have worn off and an acceptance of the neighbor dating arrangement has been set.

The people you see the most are the ones that you will most likely end up dating, living together, and marrying.  The workplace and home residences are prime locations for meeting and dating.  Follow the dating process with sensitivity and caution when involving your neighbor in a dating relationship.
