Children are playful by nature. They are always happy and active. They love to roam around and cannot be contained in one place and in one sitting position. They want their freedom with anything and everything, which can sometimes irritate the parents especially when children attend a gathering or a solemn wedding ceremony.
Children easily get bored, especially during ceremonies, such as weddings. They can become restless and full of complaints about so many things. So how will you keep your child occupied at a wedding gathering so your child will not disturb the wedding ceremony? Here are a few tips.
- Talk to your child. Talk to your child one week before the wedding. Tell your child about the wedding and what wedding is all about. Explain to your child why the event is so important and why it is well attended by all of your family members.
Tell your child what the activities are and how long will it take before the ceremony will finished. This way your child will know what is happening and will not disturb you by asking too many questions. Tell your child that you want his full cooperation and his best behaviour on the event. Be patient with your child in explaining all the details.
- Accompany your children for a walk before the ceremony starts. Before the ceremony starts, accompany your child for a walk so your child can explore the area. Your child will love his new environment and all the new things surrounding here. If the wedding will start in a few minutes, tell your child that you need to sit down in your designated position.
- Bring your child’s activities. Bring your child’s coloring book so he can color or draw his favorite cartoon character while the wedding ceremony is going on. Children will definitely get bored by the long activities during the wedding. By bringing his coloring book he will be busy for a while and concentrate on what his doing.
- Encourage your child to enjoy the food and the gathering. Although wedding is an adult event, children can also enjoy. Introduce your child to your friends and relatives who live far away and haven’t seen your child for a long time. Talking to your friends and relatives will make your child happy and alert.
- Give your child a food that you think your child will like. If there’s something new, encourage your child to eat a little portion of the food. If after eating your child gets sleepy, let your child take a short nap in a certain place. People will understand that children easily get tired and exhausted.
- Let your child enjoy the music. If your child loves to dance, encourage your child to dance, you may accompany your child to the dance floor if your child is a little bit shy to start dancing.
Keeping your child busy at a wedding can be difficult but you have to do it. Never force your child to do something that he dislikes because this will only make him irritated and cranky.
Understanding and patience from your end is the key to achieve to keep your child occupied at a wedding.
