Knowing if you are gay or not is a process, and this process usually takes place when you are younger, as early as 12 years old. The first sign is if you are experiencing feelings or being envious of another male/females looks. Because of this, this may not be a sign of being gay per say, but it is an indicator of possible homosexual tendencies in the future. No-one wants to be considered gay, however, this is a fact of life and there is nothing wrong with it. It just is and feelings are feelings.
Many gay people do not realize they are gay until later in life when they are possible in their 20s or 30s. A first experience or experimental experience may happen, and feelings of guilt may arise. Then the desire or thought of being gay is almost repulsive. The thoughts are still there, and eventually the process of experimental homosexual behavior may be repeated. Knowing whether or not you are in fact gay may not be until you are open to the fact and accept it. There are many gay people in the world who openly express their status of being a gay person and are very proud of the fact. Being gay is not a crime but a change of life and a new beginning.
Being gay usually occurs when a relationship is formed between 2 people of the same sex. This is much like a heterosexual relationship where people cohabitate together and become a couple. There are gay marriages and gay couples all over the world. They usually live in the same area, San Francisco for instance is known for its gay population and they have many parades and events celebrating openly gay people and their lifestyle. If you are gay then you accept your status openly, are proud of it and only see other people of the same sex. On the other hand there are bi-sexual people who are attracted to or have relationships with both men and women. These types of people are neither gay nor straight but have relationships with both sexes.
If you think you may be gay, it may be wise to get counseling, confide in others about your feelings and try and come to grips with how you feel about desires, confusion and questions you may have. It is more important now than ever to practice safe sex for gay people. Since the 1980s, AIDs has claimed the lives of many gay people as well as heterosexuals. Seeking a counselor, becoming educated on gay issues and safe sex may help you to become better informed.
If you think you may be gay, don't be ashamed, embrace your feelings and go with them. Practice safe sex and remember that sex is not all there is to being gay. Becoming a gay person is not a crime but a lifestyle change.
