How To Leave a Lasting Impression

If you are wondering how to make a lasting impression, your immediate concern should be about the first impression you make.  A person's first impression of someone usually has a permanent influence on their overall and lasting impression of that person. There are various ways to create a lasting impression on someone whether you are with them for just a few moments or for an extended period of time.

There are generally four categories in which we relate to others. There are the people we work with, the people we socialize with, the people we meet in passing as we travel through life, and those we have a close, longer lasting relationship with.  When it comes to leaving a lasting impression on someone, the manner in which you do so somewhat depends on the particular category the person fits into.  The one common thread would be that you want the lasting impression you leave to be a positive impression.

One of the best ways to leave a good impression is to always greet people with a smile.  Keep a positive attitude. Make eye contact when speaking with them. Listen to what they have to say.  Make them feel that their opinion, their stories, or their ideas interest you. This technique works well in the workplace and in social settings.

There is no reason to deny that people make judgments based on a person's physical appearance. You can leave a lasting impression on these people by creating a signature look that they will remember long after you are gone. Be sure to make your fashion statement appropriate for the situation. Perhaps you can find an accessory that makes a statement that others will remember about you. You could be remembered as the person with the colorful scarves, the unusual shoes, or the artistic ties.

If you want to leave a positive lasting impression with those you work with, socialize with, or have a close relationship with you need to decide what qualities you want to be remembered for.  Do you want them to remember you as efficient, organized, and dedicated to your job?  Do you want them to remember you as passionate about your dreams, committed to a cause, and one who always looks for the positive in a situation? Do you want to leave a lasting impression that reminds others of the important role you played in their life?

Perhaps the best way to leave a lasting impression is to live each day as if your actions that day will be what comes to mind when people think of you. From the first impression you make to the lasting impression you wish to leave, try to present yourself as self-confident, positive, unique, and genuine.
