The stackable ring toy is one of the most popular toys among young children. Yes, give your kid one of these bad boys and see his face light up like the full moon in the night sky. These toys are normally found in plastic. While this may be convenient, it can also be toxic if the toy was made with questionable material. If you want your kid to enjoy this type of toy while still remaining safe and healthy, then you might want to consider making the same toy but instead of plastic, use fabric and fiber filling. Yes, you will be making a stuffed toy stacking ring toy and here are the steps to follow.
- Begin with the base. To make the base for your stuffed stacking ring toy, you will need to cut out 1 square out of cardboard. The dimensions for this cardboard piece will be 10 inches all around. Once that is cut, you will want to cut it out at the corners in order to make the cardboard as round as possible. Once that is done, the next step will require you to cut 2 pieces out of the fabric you will be using for the base. These pieces should be squares as well and should be around 11 to 12 inches long at all sides. When that is done, sewing the fabric pieces together will be the next step. Basically, you will want to sew both squares together at the edges at the inside of the fabric. Sew all three sides together and leave the last side open. After sewing, turn the fabric right side out and place the circular cardboard in. Choose one side of the cardboard to be the top and fill it up with fiber filling. Once you complete the filling, sew the last side shut.
- Proceed with the cone. Now that the base is all set up, the next step is to create the stuffed cone that will be where the rings will be stacked on. To do this, simply cut out a circle from the fabric. The dimension should 12 inches in diameter. Once cut, fold the fabric in half. You will have a semi circle at this point. Roll the folded semicircle fabric to form a nice cone. Sew the two sides together in order to maintain the cone. Invert the cone and stuff it with fiber filling. Once the cone has been filled to the brim, place the base of the cone onto the base your created previously and sew it down. Now, you have successfully made the stacking toy. The only thing left to do is to create the rings.
- Create the rings. To make the rings, you will need to cut a total of 8 circles from the fabric at varying diameters of 10, 8, 6, and 4 inches. Make sure that you use different colors for each circle you cut out. Once that is done, cut out the middle part of the circle to make a hole large enough to fit through the cone. When that is done, the next step will be to sew the outer and inner edges of each circle together at the interior of the fabric in order to form a tubular design. Make sure to leave an opening in order to turn it inside out after sewing. Once that is done, fill up each tube’s gap with fiber filling and sew the remaining opening shut. Repeat the process until you complete all the rings.
You have successfully made your very own stuffed stackable ring toy. Present it to your kid and teach him how to use it.
