Once you decide to ask your girlfriend or boyfriend to marry you, you start a whole new ball game. You have to figure out all the wedding details and where you want to live together. A lot of the time the easiest thing to do is have your future spouse just move in with you. You may be looking around a cluttered room right about now thinking to yourself "well where is she or he supposed to fit?!" I'm here to help. I'll help you turn your bedroom into one that can accommodate 2 people comfortably. So, let's get started!
The first thing you will want to do is go through all of your stuff and see what you can part with. Yes, I said all of it. You spouse will have things of his or her own that she or he will want to bring with them, so you have to free up at least a little room. Go through your closet, drawers, and even under your bed. Anything you haven't used or worn in the past year should go unless it has some kind of special sentimental value. Once you are done with this, put everything you are keeping up and make sure there's a couple of drawers and closet space for your spouse to put his or her things. If there's not enough room, put something’s into storage you can't bring yourself to get rid of.
Now, what should you do with all of your junk you just weeded out? There are lots of possibilities. There's craigslist.org, ebay.com, and yard sales if you want to try to make a few bucks off of it. If you just want it gone your best bet would be donating it to a place like Goodwill or posting it on a website like Freecycle.org. There's someone out there that will want your old stuff, not matter what it is.
Now that you have made some space for your spouse's things, it's time to think about anything that would make him or her feel at home. Moving is a big adjustment to anybody so try to make the transition as smooth as possible. Go out and buy and extra pillow and pillow case to put on your bed just for your spouse. You can also throw in a nice surprise such as flowers on his or her nightstand. It's not necessary by any means, but I don't know a single person who wouldn't appreciate it!
Congrats! You did it! You now have space for your spouse to move in with you and room for some of his or her belongings as well! Pat yourself on the back and enjoy your newly cleaned out room with your special one. You deserve it!
