Moving in general can be stressful, all the packing, then unpacking is downright tiring. When all the boxes have been unpacked, and your new home is organized, you might be finding yourself cringing at the thought of going out and meeting your neighbors. This can be a difficult task, especially not knowing anything about them. The questions running through your mind may be: How old are they? Will we get along? Do they have children or pets? Are they up late partying? All these are good questions, but how is it that you will take the first step? These questions not only weigh on your mind, but the existing neighbors as well.

One suggestion would be to have a just moved in party. Simply purchase invitations, and hand deliver them to each of your neighbors. What you will want to do for this just moved in party is to have food, drinks, and some sort of entertainment such as music. Set up an table in the basement, backyard, or garage with a variety of food, baked goods, and drinks. Have several banquet tables set up in rows for your guests to sit and chat. At each table have a deck of playing cards in case people want to play a game of Euchre, or Poker.

As your guests arrive, introduce yourself and show them to the area with the food, and beverages. When all your guests have arrived, and are seated, take time to sit at each of the tables, and join in the conversation or start your own. The just moved in party may not only serve the purpose of you meeting your new neighbors, but for others who may have lived in the neighborhood for years, and do not know anyone, or talked to others before this party. This is a win-win situation for everyone to get together and mingle, making new friends.

A different approach would be to allow the people who just moved in to get situated in their new house. A good time frame would be a week. Go out and purchase, or bake assorted baked goods such as: muffins, cookies, brownies, and or a pie. If you have a large wicker basket, fill this basket with baked goods, along with a card saying welcome to the neighborhood. You can add a bottle of soda if they have children, or wine for the adults. Everyone loves baked goods, especially if they do not have to make it, and it is a tasty ice breaker.
