How To Sell Your Wedding Gown

In our mother's generation, a wedding gown was something to be saved for a daughter or granddaughter to wear at her own wedding.  A modern daughter or granddaughter often wants her own wedding gown, consistent with that year's trends.  This is understandable, since wedding gown styles change so dramatically in just a few years.  Think about the puffy sleeve trend of the Eighties that has since been replaced with sleeveless gowns and clean lines. 

So now that you've finished tying the knot, what should you do with your dress?  If you've decided to preserve or save your dress, then you can inquire about preservation services at your local dry cleaner.

However, what if you've decided to sell your wedding gown?  Today's bride has the advantage of the Internet in addition to traditional methods. 

When selling a wedding gown, one option is to take your gown to a local secondhand clothing store.  You can also call a wedding gown rental store to see if they purchase used gowns.  The benefit of these methods is that they are both quick, legitimate exchanges.  There is no need to worry about a buyer's check bouncing, or an offer to purchase falling through.  If you are willing to take these risks, though, and if you are not having any luck with local buyers, you can try to sell your wedding gown online. 

The online auction site eBay is one way to go about this.  You can try doing this in an auction format, where you name the starting price.  If you'd rather just post the price that you desire, you can also use the "Buy it now" method to set your own price for the gown.  With eBay's rating system, you can read reviews about a particular buyer to see how stable that person's transaction history has been.  And with PayPal, the buyer uses a credit card to make payment directly into your own PayPal account.  It is free to sign up for PayPal, but keep in mind that they will charge you a seller's fee for each transaction. 

Selling your wedding gown is a great way to get back at least a portion of the high price you paid for this expensive yet meaningful article of clothing.
