You've picked out the flowers, your dress and your wine list. All the guests are home and the thank you cards are being written. The big day has come and gone and you are happily married.  Now there is one final step to make your perfect wedding complete:  the wedding announcement.  A well formed wedding announcement in the newspaper can make you the envy of your friends and family, and show the rest of the world you have made the ultimate commitment.  Here are a few pointers to make your announcement stand out.

  1. First, get the dates and facts straight.  You don't want to enter the wedding announcement into the paper with the wrong date and your new spouse's name spelled wrong.
  2. Next, decide just how much information you want to give out about yourself.  Do you want everyone to know where you graduated from college?  Where you work?  How the two of you met? Where you went on your honeymoon? Only give out as much personal information as you feel comfortable giving.
  3. The next step is writing the first draft.  It's best to do this with your partner, or if they're not available, your best friend.  Two pairs of eyes are better than one.  Write as many drafts as you need.  Don't worry if this step takes awhile.  This wedding announcement is how you are telling the world that you have gotten married.
  4. Next, choose which newspaper or newspapers you want to place your wedding announcement with.  If you didn't get married in your hometowns, decide which newspaper you want to put the announcement in.  Some couples put their announcement in the paper of the town in which they were married, some in their home town. Some couples have the announcement in both.  It's really a matter of personal preference.

The last step is to write the final draft (don't forget to check your spelling and punctuation) and to choose which picture you want to use to accompany the wedding announcement.  Then simply place the wedding announcement, wait for the newspaper to publish it, and you will have another keepsake to commemorate the happiest day of your life!
