Getting a tattoo definitely means that you'll experience pain. However there are certain areas of the body where pain can be felt more intensely. Here is how to avoid these places:
- The best way to know which places to avoid is by asking those who have had tattoos on different parts of their bodies. If you know people with only a single tattoo on a certain part, make them rate the intensity of their pain from a scale of 1-10. Now, ask another person with a tattoo on a different part of the body and make him rate the pain as well. Keep on doing this until you have a list. Just remember that people have different pain thresholds; as much as possible, ask those who have a lot of tattoos on their body and make them tell you which places hurt the most.
- You could also ask those who do the tattoos as well. Because they have tattooed a lot of people on different parts of the body, or they have tattoos on themselves as well, they would have an idea of how painful a tattoo can be on a certain area of the body. He would be able to explain to you why this is so since the skill of tattooing requires a knowledge about tattooing pain and the factors which causes it.
- If you haven't visited a tattoo shop yet, you could visit online forums that discuss tattoo matters. There would be discussions regarding the safest places for tattoos as well as the most painful ones. If there aren't any topics regarding this, you could post this topic and start the discussion. Just remember that replies may come slowly, the conversation may lose focus and the quality of replies may differ from person to person. If you have patience and lots of time, you could find online forums to be helpful.
- Read online articles. There would be topics about tattoos posted in the Internet and you could look for those, which give a list of painful places to avoid when getting a tattoo.
- Join tattoo courses. You could find them using your search engine or look in classified ads. The topics will include which body areas are most painful to be tattooed on. You may be also taught how to avoid them or how to lessen the pain.
- Watch online videos. Like online articles, you can get a lot of useful information from watching videos about tattoos. To find videos that specifically deal with sensitive areas of the body, refine your search by entering appropriate keywords such as "most painful places for tattoos."
- Here is a list of the common painful areas to get a tattoo: bony body areas such as the foot, the ankle, the knuckles, behind the ear, the private parts, the chest, the eyebrow and the eyelids.
- The least painful places are the calf, the buttocks, the thigh and the arms. If you want to avoid very painful places, you could try getting your tattoos on these safe areas.
Pain is a subjective factor and pain thresholds can vary from person to person. When in doubt, you could do some tests by prodding yourself with your fingernail and see where it hurts the greatest.
