Emo has taken fashion to a whole new level. Whether it's the clothes, the music, or the hair - you will definitely know an emo when you see one. When you see them, it's like they're the same, but not really.
Emo hair styles look good--plain and simple. Guys and girls both look good with emo hair, and if you want, look at the tips below to get an authentic emo hair style, and not just a poser.
- Have a fringe - an emo fringe. The drama in the emo fringe is that it hides a part of you from the world. To get it, know first which side you want the fringe to be on, right or left, then get it straightened; and to keep it in place, you can use a plastic clip.
- While emo hair is characterized as black, highlights or streaks can be anything you want. Again, the more drama, the better. Because of the specific style and layering of emo hair, highlighting is essential to bring attention to it.
- Have layers. This will add movement to your hair, and your hair will be shouting emo from all angles. A short haircut with layers is a cardinal rule for emo.
- Keep them guessing with proportions. While your hair may look like an amateur did your haircut, an emo haircut would have to look unconventional, because being emo is being unconventional. Varied proportions create drama and will finish off the whole look for your cut.
- Keep it straight. Classic emo hair is straight hair. If you have wavy or curly hair, forget it. Use straightening irons, gels, or a blow-dryer - just get it straight.
- Take care of your hair. Getting a haircut or highlights isn't enough. Maintain the emo look with shiny and clean-smelling hair. Get hot oil treatment every once in a while (especially if you've moved from wavy or curly to straight emo hair) to retain the straightness and highlight the layers.
- You can go to your salon and have it all fixed. Tell them you want emo hair, and they'll give it to you. But if you want you can also do it with your friends. They know who you are and what style is best for you (which is important for your ‘own' emo hair).
- Finally, don't overdo it. Get an emo haircut, highlights, layering, etc., and simply maintain it. Overdoing it or switching from one emo style to another is not an emo thing.
Maybe what is important to know is that emo hair looks good on the person wearing it because in the first place, that person is so comfortable with it - and confidence can do a lot of good things to a person. Individuality is important. While it is the same emo style, it is ‘your' emo style. Also, have fun, be creative and be all the emo that you can be. Your hairstyle can help you project that emo look, but living it and doing it makes you an emo, not a poser.
