How To Add a Lip Ring

A piercing done in the soft tissue in or around the area of the lip is generally referred to as a lip piercing. Placement of the piercing will determine the type of piercing. Piercings are nothing new, and every few months a new crop of ideas takes form. Rising in popularity is the said lip ring. Wearers have the choice of one or many rings. Ones can be placed in the middle or on either side. The most popular style of late is one on each side, close to the corner of the mouth.

In order to add a lip ring you’ll need to have a piercing done. Some might prefer to pierce an area themselves, with the proper tools. This method is not recommended, as there is a higher risk for an infection.  Not only that, often you are not able to pierce straight. Enlist a friend to help if needed. 

1. If you choose this method you will need a piercing needle in a 14 or 16 Gauge. 
2. Choose the style and placement of the ring.
3. Clean the area to be pierced with rubbing alcohol, as well as the needles and ring. 
4. Mark the placement with a dot using a pen or marker. 
5. Slowly push needled through skin.
6. Before the needle has been pushed completely through, the end of the needle contains an insertion tool; your ring will slide right in.
7. Once your piercing needle has gone completely through, it has pulled your ring to the beginning.
8. Push it the rest of the way through and close it.
9. Clean the area again with rubbing alcohol.

Some people like to check out a few establishments rather than settling on the first one they call or see. Doing so will let you compare prices, cleanliness, and piercers. You will want your piercer to be someone you can develop a relationship with, especially if you plan to get more piercings.
