Before rushing off to get a tattoo, check out these options for lower back tattoo designs.

There are many tattoo designs out there to choose from. However, before rushing off to the tattoo parlor to have your favorite design tattooed onto your lower back, you must know how to ensure you are completely happy with the design and that it cannot be improved upon.

Step 1:

On a piece of paper, write your name in the middle. Then surround your name with the names of your friends, your family, your work colleagues, and other groups of people you may belong to.

Then surround each of these names with words that you think they would use to describe you.

This will give you a good idea of how other people see you, and therefore provide some further options for your chosen designs.

Step 2:

On a different piece of paper, write your name in the middle and surround it with words that you would use to describe yourself.

For example, are you outgoing, sporty, a workaholic, independent, shy, etc?

Step 3:

Using these two pieces of paper and a colored pen, circle the characteristics that you would like to have expressed in your chosen tattoo.

Step 4:

Using another piece of paper, write the word "design" in the middle. Around the outside, write as many images, pictures, references, works of art, etc., that you can think of. Think of other tattoos that you have seen. Do not restrict yourself to tattoos that you love, but include any you can think of.

If you think of ones that you particularly love, highlight them; if you think of ones that you particularly hate, highlight them in a different color.

You are trying to put together a brainstorm of what images you are drawn to.

Step 5:

As getting a tattoo is an emotional process - you must have an emotional connection to your design - you should think about your motivations for getting the tattoo. Note these down on the same piece of paper.

Take a look at all of the pieces of paper, and summarize what you want you design to include and exclude. This is the best way of ensuring that you do not simply bend to designs you are shown in the tattoo parlor. Be strict with the tattoo artist, because you will be the one wearing the tattoo, not them!
