Is your bun on the run? Very good! It means you were able to do it up perfectly with just a touch of mess to make it look wild, sexy, and yet still put together. However, you can still improve on your hot buns to make it hotter. As they say, there is always room for improvement.
You will need:
- Wide-toothed comb
- Round brush
- Hair spray
- Anti-frizz hair product
- Bobby pins. You can go for plain black or gold ones or the ones with decorative accents.
- Elastic hair bands (optional)
Start combing your hair to make it smooth. When you have everything that you need ready, take a comb and slowly comb through your hair to make it smooth and tangle-free.
Run a frizz-free styling product through your hair. Do this in case your hair is über frizzy making it difficult for you to style it. Use just enough to help your hair get in shape.
This time, run a brush through your hair. Use the brush to pull your long mane backwards then use your free hand to lift your mane up so that you can tie an elastic band around it for a ponytail. Make sure that you ponytail is neither too tight nor too loose.
Think about your options. While your hair is in a ponytail, think about whether you want a low chignon or a bun on the top of your head. Naturally, you must have below-the-shoulders hair to achieve a high bun. Think about which style to adapt for today.
Spray on hair spray. Spritz some on the top of your hair and on the ponytail. Smoothen out bumps with the palm of your hand. Then take the brush over the ponytail and start to loosely brush or tease the hair so that it creates volume once you pile on the ponytail to create a thick bun.
Take the length of the ponytail. Start coiling it around the base of the ponytail. As you loosely twirl it around, you will see that it is starting to form a thick bun. Go on until you reach the tip of the ponytail.
Seal with bobby pins or another elastic band. You can complete the task in two ways:
- Bobby pins. Take one bobby pin, stick it gently on top of the bun and twist it gently so that it secures both the longest tip of the bun and the center of the ponytail. Follow this up with as many bobby pins as it will take to perfect the look. Just be methodical as you work so that you don’t hurt your scalp. Ditto, do not worry about the bobby pins showing through. If the bobby pins are new, there’s no need to worry about this.
- Elastic band. Do you see the longest tip of the ponytail sticking through the bun? That’s where you need to place another elastic band. Simply roll it into the mix until you see that it is holding the bun in position. That’s all there is to it.
Now you are ready to go out and wow the crowd with your devil-may-care and eye-catching bun!
Reminder: You might want to consult your hairstylist if you have hair extensions. There’s a chance the extensions won’t hold up to this kind of hairstyle.
