We all like to look our best. What better way to do so than to face the world with perfect skin. Smooth and blemish free skin is always a sign of good health. Perfect skin also boosts our self-esteem. If we look good, we feel good. Getting perfect skin doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Here are a few tips on how to get that glowing, healthy skin you've always wanted.
- Know your type of skin. The very first thing you need to do is know what type of skin you have. If your skin feels greasy, looks shiny and you're prone to pimples, you most likely have oily skin. Dry skin is characterized by flaky, dull-looking skin. It also feels tight after cleansing. Combination skin means you have over-productive oil glands in what is called the T-zone while the rest of the area feels dry. You know you are blessed with normal skin when it does not feel flaky, dry, or oily. Special care also needs to be taken if you have mature or sensitive skin.
- Eat a good diet. What you eat will normally show up in your skin. There are certain vitamins and minerals that can help your complexion. Betacarotene found in apricots, peaches, spinach and carrots help your skin generate new cells. Vitamin C in citrus fruits and tomatoes are essential for building the collagen in your skin. Calcium from dairy, broccoli, spinach and tofu prevents sagging skin and wrinkles. Vitamin E in oil-rich nuts and avocado helps maintain healthy-looking skin. If you are prone to dark circles around your eyes or if you easily bruise, try adding more Vitamin K into your diet by eating more leafy green vegetables, liver and dairy products. Drink plenty of water to moisturize your skin from the inside.
- Protect your skin from the sun. Before going out in the sun, protect your skin. Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to protect yourself from harmful ultra-violet rays. You can also wear a hat and a pair of sunglasses for added protection. You can protect your lip's skin by wearing a lip balm with sunscreen. When choosing cosmetic skin products like make up, make sure that they also have ingredients that help protect you in the sun.
- Clean and moisturize your skin. When choosing the perfect products to use, you may want to check if they are dermatology-tested for your skin. Avoid harsh chemicals. Choose a cleanser that fits your type of skin. Hot water is good for oily skin since it helps break down the sebum. Warm and lukewarm water can be used for all other skin types. After cleansing, use a moisturizer.
- Use special treatments. Give your skin some special treatment every once in a while. You don't have to scrub your skin to exfoliate. Instead, try using a product with tea tree oil. You can apply a face mask or get a steam facial, depending on the type of skin you have. Visit a dermatologist to have your skin checked. He may recommend additional steps to help you achieve and maintain healthy skin.
As you can see, perfect skin is not just achieved through the products you use but also by the lifestyle you lead. Eat healthy and maintain a skin management routine and you will be blessed the rest of your life with skin you'll be proud of!
