When it comes to owning a good set of clothes for work, men do not have many options. The existing ones can, however, be mixed and matched to showcase your professional and positive attitude to work. The main idea is to look clean, neat and tidy and not look like you have just walked into a rave party or a club for a night out! Here are a few pointers on what every working man’s wardrobe should contain.
Business suit
Owning one nice business suit, preferably in black, dark blue or dark grey is a must-have! You can also pair this up with your regular shirts and t-shirts on different occasions such as client visits, business meetings, etc. Pin-striped suits are considered more fashionable and elegant today, although a bit expensive. You could also wear the same black suit to a wedding!
Long-sleeved shirts
Your wardrobe must contain a minimum of five long sleeved shirts – plain ones or striped. This will help you to work through the week without using the washing machine! Choosing the right colors is also necessary, as most companies do not allow you to wear bright-colored shirts to work! Sheer whites may also be prohibited, as wearing a vest under your business shirt is not customary today.
Business trousers
Pleated trousers are out! Purchase of a minimum of three flat-front business trousers is a good investment. Ensure these match the color of your shirt(s). Most common colors to buy are black, navy blues or dark grey. Since most companies are air-conditioned, you will be able to wear these more than once a week.
Friday dressing
Polo shirts with khaki trousers or dark denim jeans are a good bet for Friday. Avoid cropped pants, shorts, sneakers, faded or worn-out jeans, bright-colored shirts or collarless t-shirts!
Winter wear
Without any professional compromise, fine silk knit jumpers can be worn with collared shirts during winters to give you extra warmth! Purchase of a nice wool blend coat or a trench coat is necessary in comparison to your casual rain jacket!
Other accessories: Ties, shoes and socks, belt, laptop bag and watch
A laptop bag or a portfolio looks sleek and professional. They also help you carry other belongings such as your mobile phone, car keys, business cards, etc, in their various compartments. Black leather shoes look classy with any outfit; slip-on loafers or lace-ups look professional and stylish; square toe shoes are currently in fashion! Buy five pairs of matching plain dark-colored socks such as black or navy blue or dark grey socks to match the color of your trousers. A silver or gold tone watch with roman numerals is a better buy than a plastic sports watch with a digital display! Top it all off with a black leather belt that has a small to medium-sized buckle.
