There are times when you get so annoyed and bored with your long hair that your first impulse is to cut it really short. At first you feel refreshed and happy for sporting a short hairdo. After all it gives you a new look and more people are noticing your different style.

But after a while things start looking gloomy again. You start missing your long hair and you decide to grow it back again. You dread, however, the long process of growing it out again, and the awkward stages in between especially when it reaches the middle stage, when it is neither long nor short.

To grow out your hairstyle with less or no fuss, try these suggestions:

  • First, study your hair. Look at its texture, color, elasticity and manageability. This is important because you need to know your hair to be able to manage it while it is growing out. By identifying its texture, color and elasticity, you will know how to approximately manage and care for it, and what products and styles best suit it.
  • Second, get a regular trim every three or four weeks. As hair grows, some of the ends may split, causing it to look unhealthy and wiry. If you get a regular trim, you will get rid of the split ends and your hair will look more bouncy and glowing as it continues to grow out.
  • Third, find the right products that will go well with your hair. Don't use any product just because your friend uses it and it works well on her. What is good for her hair may not work well on your crowning glory.
  • Fourth, in those awkward in-between stages when your hair becomes difficult to manage, try it out with different styles. You may use styling gel to control and gather together the growing strands. Hair clips and hair sprays are also useful, but use hair spray sparingly because it can cause the hair to become brittle. You may also tie it to the back and sustain this kind of hairstyle until your hair finally grows to its desired length and you are ready to let it down.
  • Fifth, have regular hair care such as hot oil and hair spa treatment so your hair will grow in a healthy way. This will also prevent falling hair that may result in unwanted hair loss.

In growing out your hairstyle, taking good care of your hair is the number one rule. Let it loose and down as often as you can. Avoid hair-punishing hair styles that require teasing, braiding and pulling because these methods might cause hair loss. Also, comb your hair with a soft, plastic (not metal) big toothed comb when it is newly washed and wet so the strands will not fall out.

To grow out your hairstyle, you need to be patient, persevering and determined. If you tire of taking care of your hair while it's in the process of growing out, you will never attain what you want. The best hairstyle does not grow out overnight.
