It happens every time without fail. You apply your eyeshadow in the morning and it looks great, but by lunchtime, it's a disaster! Once again your eyeshadow, which was perfect just hours earlier, has creased, taking a bite out of your confidence in the process. This is a common problem for women. Fortunately, here are a few simple tricks on how to prevent this annoyance in the future.
Be sure to start with clean skin. Make sure there is no make-up left from the previous day. Clean your face, including the eye area, with a facial cleanser before putting on your make-up. Also, avoid applying any sort of moisturizer to your eyelids. If your eyeshadow tends to crease, a moisturizer will only make the problem worse. Instead, apply a mattifying cream to your top eyelids. This helps to reduce oiliness in your lids.
When you apply your foundation, be sure to include your lids and the area around your eyes. This serves as a base for your eyeshadow and helps to keep it in place. Be sure to completely absorb the foundation into your lids. Then apply an eyeshadow primer. This step is very important as the primer is your best defense against creasing.
Avoid using cream eyeshadow on your problem areas. Matte shadow shades are best, as they tend to stay in place better and last longer. Also, consider using a more expensive eyeshadow if your budget will allow it. The old standard, "you get what you pay for," really does apply to cosmetics. Lower end shadows have a tendency to crease or fade more. Keep away from the crease and inner corner of the eye while applying your shadow.
Use an eyeshadow brush, instead of the foam tipped applicator that often comes with the make-up, to apply your shadow. Brushes are better applicators as they disperse the shadow more evenly. To apply, gently dab your eyeshadow on in several, small, short strokes instead of sweeping it all the way across your lid in one long swoop. Blend your shadow to achieve the desired effect.
Finally, with a large make-up brush, dust just a little translucent powder over your eye make-up. Pay special attention to the area from your lash line to your crease. This final step works to set your eye make-up in place.
Following the procedures given, keep your eye make-up in place and looking beautiful all day long. No longer will that air of feminine confidence you feel in the morning after freshly applying your make-up, fade at lunch time as you view yourself in the mirror with a feeling of dismay. Remember, you're beautiful, and now your eye make-up will enhance that beauty, hour after hour.
