How To Make a Classic Chignon

The classic chignon is a timeless hairstyle that can instantly transform your look into one of sophistication and elegance. Throughout the years, stylish women have relied on this simple hairstyle to reflect effortless grace. The look has never gone out of style. The chignon works well with both daytime casual looks and special dressed-up occasions and adds a final classic touch to whatever you are wearing. It is ideal for medium to long hair and is amazingly easy to assemble in only a few quick steps.

  1. Start with hair that has been brushed and/or straightened. Straightening and anti-frizz products can also help with this process and give a beautiful shine that will show off your beautiful chignon.  It may be easier to manage and style if you lightly mist hair with water first. Brush hair into a low ponytail, making sure all hair on the head is smooth and sleek, and secure at the back of the neck, at the hairline.
  2. Divide hair into two equal parts. For added fullness, gently tease each section by coming backward until the right amount of volume for your taste is created. Be sure to gently smooth the outside of the sections in order to maintain a smooth and sleek look to the sections of your chignon. Take the left section of hair in your left hand and while holding the base of the ponytail with your right hand, bring the section down, twist to the left and wrap it around the top of the ponytail, finally bringing it all the way around to the bottom. Secure with bobby pins and pin any longer hairs under the ponytail and out of sight. Longer hair may have to be wrapped around more than once.
  3. You’re halfway finished! Easy, right? Repeat the process on the other side with the right section. Hold the chignon in place while taking the last section straight down and then twisting around the top to the left side. Secure with bobby pins at the base and under the chignon. Again, longer hair may have to wrapped around more than once.
  4. Carefully smooth and secure any stray pieces into place on the chignon with bobby pins pinned to the underside of the chignon. Spray with hairspray to hold in place.

Your classic chignon is complete and you have added a whole new level of chic to your look!
