Floral hair clips to match all of your favorite outfits can easily be made at home. Floral hair clips are versatile, due to the enormous variety of flowers from which you can choose. Naturally, flowers come in an array of colors, therefore your choices are almost limitless. Here are a few simple steps to help your hairdo enhance your appearance. This fun craft can be done quickly, and does not have to take all day to accomplish.
The first step is to acquire all the necessary materials. You will need a low-temp glue gun; an array of silk or fake flowers and the green leaves; your choice of hair clip: hinge, slide, or clamp; sturdy thread, low-pound fishing line, or craft wire; ribbons of choice color; and green floral tape.
- If you have wire-centered flowers, pick 2-3 medium ones and twist the wire stems together. Wrap with floral tape. Repeat this step for as many color combinations as you wish to make. For no wire-centered flowers, group a few together for a pattern you like. These will be your base designs.
- Hair clips of any kind are not complete without accents. Therefore, now add small and micro flowers to your groupings to enhance and accent the colors.
- Create color-coordinated piles of your green and leafy parts. Separate those into sizes for fast, easy reach.
- Now it is time to assemble your floral hair clip. Choose your barrette or clip preference.
- Carefully place a strip of hot glue across the top of the clip. Ribbons can be placed here, under the leaves, or tied on later.
- Quickly - before the glue cools - place an overlapping layer of green leaves. Press down firmly to secure. Be careful not to burn yourself on the glue.
- For no-wire flowers, continue to place a piece in the desired position following each dab of glue.
- For the wired flowers, place them across the chosen clip and secure with a drop of glue followed by wrapping some of the thread, fishing line, or craft wire around the top of the clip and floral arrangement. You may also choose to wrap the clip with the floral tape prior to attaching flowers to the hair clip, or it can be done to help secure the flowers to the clip. You may also secure the décor with a drop of glue on a tied ribbon.
- Place your creation in a designated place so the glue can set and so others can admire your work.
- Finally, adorn your hair with your beautiful floral hair clip!
